The Best Fencers Are Built Together 🤺❤️
A competition gives us a result for one day.
Friendship can shape a fencer for years.
We meet on the piste wanting to win. We test each other, challenge each other, find weaknesses, push limits and learn how to stay calm when everything inside us is fighting to react.
And somewhere along the way, something bigger happens.
The opponent across from you becomes the person you want to fence again. The person who understands the nerves before a bout, the frustration after a difficult day, the hours of training nobody sees, and the feeling when something you have worked on for months finally works.
Because becoming a great fencer is an inner game.
You learn courage. Patience. Discipline. Confidence. You learn how to lose, how to return, how to adapt and how to keep believing in yourself. And while you are teaching yourself how to win, you need people around you who are willing to challenge you again and again.
People who make you better.
People who want to fence you because they know you will make them better too.
That is one of the extraordinary things about fencing: some of your strongest friendships can begin with two people standing opposite each other with weapons in their hands.
You compete fiercely.
You shake hands.
You meet again.
You grow together.
Years later, the medals may be sitting in a drawer, but the friendships, the memories and the respect remain.
This photo is the proof.
Three fencers who came to compete, challenge themselves and become better — and somewhere between the bouts, the victories, the defeats and the long days in the fencing hall, they became friends.
On the piste. Off the piste. True friendship.
And perhaps that is one of the greatest victories our sport can give us. 🤺❤️
