The discussion was : " Feels like a Return to the Shire", referring to The Hobbit. We don't really look for The Ring on a CCC, but we seem to bring back something just as magical every time. Something to feed on and wonder at for so long.....until the next one! CCC Rhone is my latest "painting" and I'm very happy with it. Needs just a few final brush-strokes for next year, but overall, it's not bad at all! Ten stages. Ten days on bikes. Hundreds of magic moments. Hard work. Big reward!

65RIDE2022 st23 Malaucène to Alès. 195kms / 2200m. Crossing the Rhone into Ardèche means an exceptional "recovery stage". Anything under 3000m looks flat on a CCC now, but back in 2009, several stages came in at under 3000. Much better value these days! 65RIDE2022 st22. Crest to Malaucène. 190kms /4300m. Super-remote roads due south through the Drôme bring us to this place. There's only one of its kind. Oh great Bald One!

"Lighting the Tunnel" : extra planning time on my hands this year has produced two great new CCC routes to look towards beyond the CV19 mess. "Rhóne" and "Lombardy21".
