PSS EXTENDED LEAD AFTER TWO DAYS; FIVE NEW CHAMPIONSHIP RECORDS ESTABLISHED

The Portsmouth Secondary School (PSS) continued to dominate the 2026 Secondary Schools Independence Athletics Championship after two days of intense competition at Benjamin's Park, Portsmouth.

PSS won both the girls' and boys' divisions after the final day.

🇩🇲 Dominica Names Athletics and Historic First-Ever Swimming Team for Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games! 🏊‍♂️🏃‍♂️

The Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC) is proud to officially announce the selection of two talented young athletes who will represent the Nature Isle at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, scheduled for 31 October – 13 November 2026 in Senegal! 🇸🇳

For the first time in history, Dominica will compete in swimming at the Youth Olympic Games! This achievement represents an important step forward in the development of swimming nationally and the continued expansion of opportunities for our young athletes.

🌍 Dakar 2026 will also make history as the first Olympic sporting event to be staged on African soil!

💬 DOC President, Mr. Billy Doctrove, expressed confidence in the young athletes, highlighting their talent, discipline and commitment, as well as the dedication of their coaches and support teams. He noted that the Games will provide valuable international experience and an opportunity to inspire the next generation of Dominican athletes.

The Dominica Athletic Association Incorporated qualifying period for the 2027 Carifta Games opened on Thursday 1st October 2026 and will close on Sunday 14th March 2027.

Therefore, all competitions during this period which adheres to the conditions for validity of performances set out by the D.A.A Inc, affords student-athletes an opportunity to qualify.

In light of this information, Aspirers take the opportunity to wish all our members competing for their respective schools, best wishes during the Independence Athletics. Don't just run, jump, and throw for a medal, but push to set new records, and book an early qualifying spot for the 2027 Carifta Games in Guyana ✈️
