Team Songlines is an expedition Adventure Racing Team

About the team name, a Songline marks a route across land, sea and sky and has been used by Aboriginals for generations to find their way. The melody of these songs is said to describe the contours and features of the landscape which we thought it was beautiful and apt way to think about navigating our way around an Adventure Race course. The team is proud to have the backing of the following bran

❗️Leg 4 UPDATE

Kelvin, Jeannie, Martin and Lance were spotted on the bike leg yesterday afternoon, with Kelvin having suffered a mechanical and pushing his bike for a very long and mountainous section of the route before arriving at the next transition, where they have managed to borrow a bike from a team who have retired from the event.

ARWS CEO Heidi Muller says that many teams have called this cycle the most brutal and beautiful they have ever tackled in an adventure race.

Team Merrell Songlines are no strangers to a bit of ‘vasbyt’, their combined experience certain to prove useful as they push on in the face of adversity. Jeannie the 💣 has a massive grin as usual, she’s well known for getting stronger over the duration of a race, the first few legs being no more than a warm up for her! 😆

Team Merrell Songlines are now over 50 hours into the Adventure Racing World Championship - Huairasinchi 🇪🇨

With the winning time estimated to be between 85 - 90 hours, they are well over halfway now and in roughly 10th place, no small feat among racers of this pedigree from all over the world.

Martin, Lance, Jeannie and Kelvin still have a lot of biking left to do before they reach the next transition, but they have been keeping a steady pace and there is opportunity to move up the rankings if they continue in this fashion.

There is still a long trekking leg to come - 55km - so the balance between sleep requirements and maintaining pace and endurance will be key in the second half of this race.

For those of you dot watching in earnest back home in spite of the time difference, thank you! It means the world to the team 🙏🏽.

RACE UPDATE 🚨

Team Merrell Songlines have raced through their first full day and night in Ecuador at the 2024 Adventure Racing World Champs - Huairasinchi. They are currently on Leg 2 after a conservative start yesterday, that will hopefully pay off in the legs to come. The high mountains and altitude sickness have already slowed several other teams down, and would be very difficult to recover from in a race with teams of such a high caliber.

The Race Organisers are facing numerous challenges with droughts, flooding and fires in the region. Leg 3 has been now adjusted for the safety of the teams and crew. A shorter paddle is a shame for the Dusi Champions on the team, but Lance, Martin, Kelvin and Jeannie are all extremely strong on the bike and can use the 160 kilometers of Leg 4 to gain some ground 💪🏽.

¡Fuerza equipo!
