Continuing our story…

Together with Vladislav and Emilia, we travelled to the World Championships. Maria helped the couple prepare, and little by little, a new chapter in her dancing journey began.

As finding a partner was not easy, Maria started helping other couples, sharing her knowledge and her love for dance with them.

Maria Kozlova’s first students were Ilya Lobosok and Anna Rubtsova.

While still a 10th-grade student at Tammiku Gymnasium, Maria was already accompanying and representing her young students at competitions. The children, only around ten years old, won their first medals in the Magus Algus competition series and became some of the best in the republic.

Gradually, new children began joining the club. Many discovered it through local newspapers, where articles and headlines about the achievements of Stiil dancers appeared more and more often.

And now — some photographs from those years…

The first competitions, the first medals, and the faces that became an unforgettable part of the club’s story. ❤️

A Chapter in STIIL’s History. The Years That Stay With Us Forever.

We trained in two halls — at the Kohtla-Järve Cultural Centre and in the hall of the former Tammiku Gymnasium. And, by the way, we still train in that very same hall today. Time changes, generations come and go, but these walls still hold the familiar footsteps, music and memories.

During the week, we always had practice — working independently on our movements, technique and routines. And our parents became our main “coaches”. They would sit in the hall, carefully watch every movement, help, guide and worry alongside us. And perhaps that is exactly why those ordinary practices became something much more.

We learned not only how to dance. We learned how to work hard, keep going and believe in ourselves. Those countless hours of practice helped us compete, win, step onto international floors, take part in World Championships and achieve victories.

On weekends, Jaan Siilak would come from Tartu, while Areg Sergeevich travelled from St. Petersburg. When coaches came during the week, we would sometimes even miss school so that we could take as many private lessons as possible. Along the way, we were also supported by our friends from Tartu — Yuri Kagan and Margarita Goldin. A brother-and-sister, dance couple, they are now coaches and owners of their own dance studio - .

Training in this hall were Maria Kozlova with Alexander Makushev, and later with Vladimir Cherkasov; Vladislav Rybichenko, who continues his dancing and life journey in America; and Emilia Bogdanova, who lives in Scotland and is exploring different styles and directions in dance.

Looking at these photographs years later, we realise how much is hidden between these frames: first victories, defeats, journeys, tears, laughter, exhaustion, dreams — and that incredible desire to become better.

Thank you to our parents, coaches, friends and everyone who believed in us and helped us move forward.
You are a part of this story. 🤍

And perhaps the most precious thing of all — time has passed, and everyone has found their own path, but we are still here for one another.

And, most importantly, we are still friends. ❤️

Räpina — a chapter of its own in the history of our club.

For more than 20 years, Räpina, near Tartu, was the place where our summer training camps took place. A place that is still remembered with special warmth. It was never easy — but these camps gave our couples the strong foundation that later turned into results throughout the dance season.

Discipline was strict and the schedule was packed.
An early wake-up, a 7 a.m. run, mandatory cold-water training, two main training sessions, practice, fitness and private lessons — until 10 p.m., and sometimes even later. Lights out was strictly at 11 p.m.

And this was repeated for three 10-day shifts!

But those ten days always had a special ending. The final shift concluded with a big show for the people of Räpina and the parents of our students. Dance became a gift to everyone who had been part of this journey.

Here are photographs from different years —
from our youngest students attending their first camps to the time when those same young dancers eventually became mentors themselves…

The camp was led for many years by Jaan and Hele Siilak, together with our coach from St. Petersburg, Areg Sergeevich Avanesyan.

It was an entire era. And perhaps it was here, in Räpina, that much of what would later become part of our club’s history was born.

In our next post, we’ll tell you how, despite having no permanent coach on site, our dancers from Ida-Virumaa managed to grow, win and compete with some of the strongest clubs — not only in Estonia…

Stiil?

DanceSport Club Stiil Kohtla-Järve.

Where did the Stiil story begin?

In the summer of 2006, DanceSport Club Stiil Kohtla-Järve was born in Ida-Viru County.

Several couples were already representing the Tartu-based Stiil club, and thanks to the initiative of Valeri Kozlov, the dancers soon had a club of their own. Its creation was strongly supported by Estonia’s distinguished coaches and international-class judges Jaan and Hele Siilak.

Soon, Stiil brought together dancers from Kohtla-Järve, Jõhvi, Sillamäe and Narva.

Every summer, our couples travelled to Räpina for international training camps. The European programme was taught by Jaan Siilak, while the Latin programme was led by Areg Sergeevich Avanesyan from Saint Petersburg.

These camps became an important part of the journey for many of our couples.

But what were those camps really like?
We’ll tell you in our next post.

To be continued… ✨

And it seems ours has finally arrived — it’s time to tell our story. ✨

This year, our dance club celebrates 20 years.

20 years of dance.
20 years of emotions, victories, challenges and memories.
20 years of people who became part of this story.

In the coming weeks, we’ll turn the pages of our history: how it all began, the milestones, the brightest moments and the memories that are still close to our hearts.

Because 20 years is more than a date.
It’s a story worth telling. 🤍

And the story continues 💜
