Alert!

The Alpha bridge on the park's busiest road, H4-1, just E of Skukuza has washed away due to the flooding this morning.
This road connects Skukuza to Lower Sabie.
Please be careful, and stay safe!

Hi everyone!

What a whirlwind couple of days we’ve had here at SanWild! I finally managed to steal a moment to sit down and share the action-packed drama with you. Spoiler alert: our resident troublemaker, Mulato the elephant, has been keeping us very busy. Let’s dive in!

🎭 Friday: The Cheetah Cameo

Mulato decided to kick off 2025 with flair by breaking into the male cheetah enclosure. Cue a frantic radio call and a heart-stopping moment when we could only spot one cheetah. Thankfully, both cheetahs were safe and still inside the enclosure—with Mulato as their uninvited guest. The team hustled to chase him out and repair the fence. Crisis averted, or so we thought…

👑 Sunday: Mulato vs. the Lions

Apparently, Mulato wasn’t done partying. On Sunday, he bulldozed every fence line around the lion enclosures, leaving utter chaos in his wake. Bombi and Nina (our lions) moved into the hyena enclosure, Nicholas the hyena challenged Kyara the lioness (spoiler: it didn’t end well for him), and before we knew it, Nicholas and his buddy Vlooitjie escaped into the sanctuary!

Cue pandemonium as staff scrambled to locate the lions, dart the hyenas, and figure out who fought whom. It looked like a scene from Mad Max: Safari Edition. Thankfully, by evening, everyone was accounted for. Kyara had a few scratches but was otherwise fine. Bombi looked like he’d been in a brawl, but Nina, our calm and collected lioness-with-a-mane, strutted through it all unbothered.

🔧 Monday: The Plot Thickens

Just when we thought we could breathe, Mulato returned to his demolition derby, trampling every fence still standing in the lion enclosures. Alarm bells rang when the lions were nowhere to be seen, but after a long search, we found them hiding in the thickets—clever cats decided they’d had enough excitement for one weekend!

Meanwhile, we got reports of cheetahs spotted near our sanctuary’s fence line. But when our team rushed to investigate, all our cheetahs were happily lounging in their enclosure. So whose cheetahs were they? Mystery of the year! We’re working to track down the video’s source and help locate their rightful home.

🐾 The Aftermath

By the end of the day:

-The hyenas were safely darted and moved to a temporary enclosure.

The lions were found and happily lounging in their patches of shade.

Kyara was treated by dr. Scheepers for a scratch on her paw and is recovering well.

Mulato received a calming cocktail from Dr. Piso to (hopefully) mellow out for a few weeks.

And the fences… well, let’s just say Mulato has a taste for luxury materials. Repairs are underway, and our wallets are bracing themselves.

🎉 Never a Dull Moment

So there you have it—just another *completely normal* start to the year at SanWild. With all animals safe, our amazing team is hard at work patching up the chaos. As for Mulato, we love him dearly, but he sure knows how to keep us on our toes!

Here’s to 2025—off to a wild, roaring start! 🐾💥

Cheers,
