Every coach/ client relationship starts with the client wanting help reaching a goal. Great coaching involves both the coach and client.
Great coaches ask clients about their struggle points. They ask open ended questions to understand what has led the client to this point. There is a relationship built around empathy and understanding. A coach’s job is to “nudge” the client in the right direction by bringing awareness to their habits, actions, language, and priorities.

Coaches should have awareness around their own personal realities as well. Great coaches lead, guide, and assist their clients by meeting them where they are.

They provide them with proper instruction based on the client’s willingness and they take into account each client’s uniqueness in every situation.

Lower order coaches prescribe. They TELL clients what to do, when to do it, and how it will work. Lower order coaches force knowledge they know based on systems they have learned without fully understanding circumstances of the individual.

Most clients THINK they want the prescription. We hear it all the time “just tell me what to do”, but we won’t lower our standards to just do that. We will hold true to teaching our clients the “why” and helping them understand their own reality. Because in the end, that is what will create long term success for them and build a trusting relationship.
