๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ณ UN Member States have reached an agreement to adopt a historic treaty to protect the high seas, marking a significant step forward in efforts to safeguard the health of our oceans and marine life.

๐ŸŒŠ The treaty, which has been years in the making, aims to establish a framework for cooperation among countries in the management of the world's oceans, including the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources.

๐Ÿฆˆ The adoption of the treaty is a major milestone in the global effort to protect our oceans, which are under increasing threat from human activities such as overfishing, oil and gas exploration, and the dumping of plastics and other pollutants.

๐ŸŒ The treaty was supported by a broad coalition of countries, including many small island developing states and coastal nations that are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and ocean degradation.

๐Ÿค While the adoption of the treaty is a major achievement, the real work of implementing its provisions and enforcing its rules lies ahead. This will require ongoing cooperation and coordination among countries, as well as sustained efforts to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our oceans and marine resources.

๐Ÿชธ In the end, the success of the treaty will depend on the commitment of all nations to work together in pursuit of a common goal: a healthy, thriving ocean ecosystem that can sustain both human and marine life for generations to come.

Climate change is currently writing the biggest story of our lifetime, and many great filmmakers bring the issues surrounding it to life on film. Although watching a movie is not as active as a trash pick-up, a well-made documentary about the environment can actually inspire us to protect our mother nature.

In this post, each member of the E&U team has recommended one of their favourite eco-documentaries that they think is worth watching. Let us know what you think and add your suggestions in the comments!

Deforestation and the European Union: are we on track to stop the significant deforestation caused by the EU? ๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒฒ

Excitingly in 2021, the EU proposed a new regulation to reduce deforestation, which undoubtedly would be a massive jump towards reducing forest destruction.

However, it leaves us wondering - does it go far enough? ๐ŸŒ

And remember: we should never forget the role that forest-dwelling indigenous communities must have in this discussion ๐Ÿ’™

Did you ever think about the detrimental consequences of war on the environment? In light of the situation in Ukraine we have put together this overview of war and the environment, to shed some light on the silent victim of warfare.

Let us not forget how war impacts the environment globally. The use of chemical agents during the Vietnam War had significant implications on both vegetation and wildlife. Moreover, military forces in Israel and Palestine launched hundreds of rockets, causing harm to the environment. These are only a few examples to keep in mind.

๐ŸHappy World Bee Day!๐Ÿ

Recognising the importance of bees is more urgent than ever before for nature and our lives. As we are all busy bees, here are some easy and fast ways how to help the bees:

๐ŸฏSupport local beekeepers and buy locally-made honey and beeswax products!

๐ŸŒธPlant a bee friendly garden! This provides bees with a safe habitat.

๐Ÿ’šUse organic products instead of pesticides in your garden!

โ›ฒ๏ธ Even if you only have a small balcony or window, you can install a little water basin for the bees to drink during summer. Put a few stones and cork on the water, so they wonโ€™t drown.

๐Ÿ’กEducate yourself and spread the word
And before you buzz off, always remember to bee kind!
