📌 Turkish lead and European-Latin persecution:
The impressive Turkish sailor Genkees Erin Govinch (TUR 1440) takes the iron lead with only 7 points (in sail races, less points are better!) ). Coming directly behind the fierce Italian Andrea Demortas with 9 points, followed by the Brazilian Artur Lamine with 10 points.
⚙️ How's the game going? (Simplified explanation for followers):
Cluster System (Colors): Contestants are divided into groups (yellow, blue, red, green) to ensure fair start and reduce congestion.
Round Elimination Law: Each racer has the right to delete his worst result (which is the numbers you see between two brackets in the table) to protect him from sudden errors.
💥 Earthquake of the BFD (Black Flag) penalties:
Yesterday, several professionals fell into the BFD (Black Flag Disqualification) trap, meaning “Immediate Elimination” for crossing the starting line one second before the black flag signal! This penalty automatically gives a player (72 points) to ruin his total ranking. This is what happened to Brazilian Thomas Olivera and Polish Paula Vojic after they were in advanced centers, causing a complete revolution in the order!

2026 Optimist World Championship: Qualifying Series is done! Congrats to the sailors, who battled out the windy conditions on the first two days (18-25 knots) followed by a lighter third day. With many recalls on the start line in many of the races, the racing conditions on the final qualifying day were very challenging, and only one race was completed.
We have one gold fleet sailor at #31 place, Margaux Nguyen-Minh, followed by one silver fleet sailor, #96 Tara Maliah. The other three sailors are in Bronze fleet: #175 Alix Nguyen-Minh, #186 Chantal Henriksson, and #196 position Rohan Maliah.

🌊⛵ Optimist World Championship 2026 — Throwback to Days 1 & 2 🇲🇦
📅 Day 1 — Saturday, June 20
The first regattas of the championship marked the beginning of the competition in Tangier. The navigators were divided into four fleets: Blue, Green, Yellow and Red.
East wind went from 7 to 8 knots in the morning to nearly 20 knots during the races. Waves and currents have made the water level particularly demanding.
The young sailors fought their first two rounds in particularly demanding conditions, marked by sustained winds, formed waves and sustained currents.
Cengiz Eren G enVENÇ, representing Turkey 🇹🇷, took the lead of the general standings after winning both races of the day.
📅 Day 2 - Sunday, June 21
Day two started with light winds that delayed the start of the races.
The first signal of water supply was given at 12:34 a.m. The Race Committee adjusted the course several times to accommodate changes in wind direction.
Conditions then stabilised with a northeast wind blowing between 22 and 24 knots, offering intense and demanding racing for the entire fleet.
Boaters have confirmed their level in a technical waterside, where speed, strategy and mastery of the boat made the difference.
Cengiz Eren G CVENÇ has retained the top of the general ranking after four disputed races.
🌍 The competition has already offered great performances and confirmed the high sporting level of the 2026 Optimist World Cup in Tangier.
