Manager Mark Halsey was delighted with the result and effort from his squad of 15 players on Sunday morning. Despite not playing their best football OCV managed to get the better of a good, strong Bassus team.
This was an opportunity for the manager to see three Trialists play in this game, along with five new additions to the squad. Still several other players to return to action also after injury and holidays. Mark is confident and excited for the season ahead.
Bassus took the lead after about 25 minutes, but then three quick fire goals from OCV in the space of 15 minutes before halftime gave OCV the advantage. Paul Mahoney had another good game, winning the penalty for himself to then score the penalty, then making another lightening fast break to the byline, before pulling the ball back for Sam Broadway to run onto it and smash a first time volley into the back of the net for 2-1. Trialist Nasro then scored the third after a Phil Dewhurst free kick reached him at the far post and he finished well to make it 3-1.
The second half saw Bassus dominate for long spells but the OCV defence and keepers stood firm. There was also a horrible clash of heads between OCV's Vincent Stanus and Bassus' Jonathan, wishing both players a speedy recovery 🙏🏻

El entrenador Mark Halsey estaba encantado con el resultado y con el esfuerzo de su plantilla de 15 jugadores el domingo por la mañana. A pesar de no haber jugado su mejor fútbol, OCV consiguió imponerse a un buen y fuerte equipo de Bassus.
Esta fue una oportunidad para que el entrenador pudiera ver jugar a tres jugadores a prueba durante el partido, junto con cinco nuevas incorporaciones a la plantilla. Además, todavía quedan varios jugadores por regresar a la acción después de lesiones y vacaciones. Mark está ilusionado y muy motivado de cara a la temporada que viene.
Bassus se adelantó aproximadamente a los 25 minutos, pero entonces OCV marcó tres goles rápidos en un intervalo de 15 minutos antes del descanso, dando a OCV la ventaja.
Paul Mahoney volvió a realizar un gran partido, provocando un penalti que posteriormente él mismo transformó. El jugador a prueba Nasro marcó entonces el tercero después de que un lanzamiento de falta de Phil Dewhurst llegara al segundo palo, donde Nasro finalizó muy bien la jugada para poner el 3-1.
La segunda parte vio a Bassus dominar durante largos periodos, pero la defensa y los porteros de OCV se mantuvieron firmes. También hubo un horrible choque de cabezas entre el jugador de OCV Vincent Stanus y Jonathan, de Bassus. Les deseamos a ambos jugadores una pronta recuperación 🙏🏻
