Today my dad, Tony Whelan, was awarded an MBE.

Those who know him know this recognition isn’t just for what he’s done, but for who he is.

For decades, he has devoted his life to developing young players, many of whom went on to achieve incredible things in football. But beyond the game, he taught values, built confidence, created opportunities and helped shape the lives of generations of young people.

That impact reaches far beyond any football pitch.

Decades of dedication, integrity, hard work and quietly making a difference to so many people.

We couldn’t be prouder.

Congratulations Dad. Thoroughly deserved. ❤️

I haven’t posted much for a while on here but I believe this is more than worthy of a share. My dad’s 30 years + service to Manchester United has been celebrated in recent years and it is rightly deserved. In 2020, he received the Premier League’s Eamonn Dolan Award for his outstanding contribution to youth development & in 2022 he was awarded the Football Black List Prize, a coveted accolade celebrating black excellence. The club saw nearly 100 debuts under his wing and they celebrated him turning 70 with The Cliff indoor training pitch now bearing his name and as he steps down quietly, it’s beautiful to read the magnitude of response from co-workers and players, past & present. What a career, what a legend. ❤️

This new one means so so much to me. In my inner world this new ink symbolises where I am on my journey. Soon I’ll be stepping in to my 5th decade and honestly, I’ve found adulthood tough so far. I’ve had my battles, I’ve had my demons but I’ve also had an incredible amount of love and I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am without the darkness & light I’ve experienced. This past year has given me dreams I’ve never dreamt of and this year has seen me step into my body and take ownership of the warrior within. I’m not watching her. I am her. I will forever wear this with pride knowing the Jaguar spirit is always by my side. 🐆

He’ll kill me for this and admittedly I promised not to go social but f$!k it, I’m doing it anyway! On behalf of myself, our children, our friends, family and everyone else who’s been with us and for us on a journey that has truly put us to the test…..We are so unbelievably proud of you 👨‍✈️ Yesterday we got to celebrate you and all you’ve achieved. The road has been long, full of tears and fears, heartbreaks and doubts, BUT, we smashed through them and the joy you get to feel on the other side of those barriers is wonderfully immense. My husband, my best friend, my partner in crime and all the rest - You can stand tall as a father and be a beautiful example of a person who shows that by living a a life where you listen to your heart, stay true to yourself, overcome fears, embrace your passions and follow your dreams is a life that brings love, joy, abundance, humility & grace. How awesome it’s going to be to watch you love what you do and do what you love. Hopefully with my feet up and a humongous glass of wine in hand!! We’ve lived through more than most in nearly a decade together. Hopefully the next one will be equally as bonkers but perhaps less stressful please 🙏😉 I love you and our family my unique & very special Lawrence.
