Contrast water therapy bases its efficacy on the hemodynamic response generated by thermal alternation, producing vasoconstriction and vasodilation that optimizes blood flow and metabolite clearance. 🔥🧊

🧖The most supported protocols suggest a 2:1 or 3:1 ratio across four or five sets, finishing with a cold immersion (e.g., 2 minutes of heat for every 1 minute of cold, repeated five times) with temperatures ranging from 38°C for heat and 10-15°C for cold (Higgins et al. 2017).

📸In this second series on recovery methods, we analyze how current scientific evidence positions contrast therapy as a superior intervention to passive rest for mitigating perceived fatigue and post-exercise muscle edema. Through infrared thermography monitoring, we can select the most appropriate strategy based on the athlete’s thermal profile.


❄️🔥La terapia de inmersión por contrastes fundamenta su eficacia en la respuesta hemodinámica generada por la alternancia térmica, produciendo una vasoconstricción y vasodilatación que optimiza el flujo sanguíneo y el aclaramiento de metabolitos.

🧖‍♀️Los protocolos más respaldados sugieren un ratio 2:1 o 3:1 en cuatro o cinco tandas finalizando en frio (es decir, 2 minutos en calor para 1 minuto en frio unas cinco veces) con temperaturas entre los 38ºC para el calor y los 10-15ºC para el frio (Higgins et al. 2017). En esta segunda serie sobre métodos de recuperación, analizamos cómo la evidencia científica actual posiciona al contraste como una intervención superior al descanso pasivo para mitigar la percepción de fatiga y el edema muscular post-esfuerzo.
