Bulgarian Squat Optimizacion series with triple T-BOW® and unilateral-bilateral dumbbell/s
by Marcelo Lasso Marcelo Lasso

We selected some criteria to optimize the Bulgarian Squat exercise:

* Define loads that provide an effective personalized balance between submaximal strength, fast strength (more or less elastic-reactive), and endurance strength.

* A flat, reactive surface, with bare feet and/or shoes similar to weightlifting shoes, is most recommended for submaximal strength training. Stable and secure supports are necessary for loading and unloading high weights.

* We do not recommend performing exercises on very soft, unreactive surfaces with multiple axes of imbalance (such as on a Bosu or similar tools), due to their lack of applicability to the surfaces where we regularly move or practice sports.

* It is important to determine the position of the trunk and the placement of the load(s) due to their impact on the selective recruitment of the muscles around the foot, knee and hip.

* Ensure that the knee’s axis of gravity is centered on the foot support, that the hip is not rotated to keep the spine well aligned, do not lean too far toward the back leg or flex it too much to avoid knee problems with high loads, and maintain the foot support with a balanced flexion-extension of the ankle.

* To optimize balance conditions of the Bulgarian Squat, combining them with flat-ground and reactive ex*****ons, we suggest ex*****ons on the T-BOW® with a single axis of imbalance and very reactive for fast and precise postural adjustments

Postural Training with T‑BOW® (Disportare Conference, University of South Bohemia, 11–12 Oct 2018)

https://www.t-bow.net/post/postural-training-with-t-bow?lang=en

- Presentation by S. Bonacina, X. García‑Navarro, H. Pérez‑Vivas, I. Farré‑Sánchez and D. Ribera‑Nebot (Zurich University; Barcelona–Madrid universities).
- The T‑BOW® and its technical development are particularly well suited for postural training.

Key T‑BOW® properties for postural:
- Elasticity and inertia in fine movements produce very fast, reactive changes that strongly stimulate proprioception, beneficial for posture optimization.
- Unstable (concave/edge) position permits rocking (lateral, frontal, mixed) and supports on many body points (feet, knees, hips, trunk, hands, forearms, head) including triple/quadruple supports.
- Stable (convex) position provides secure supports on the mat; double T‑BOW® creates highly reactive balance conditions even when nominally “stable.”
- Arched design aligns with spinal curvatures, offering greater mobility and strengthening potential in extension, flexion, lateral tilt and rotation compared with a flat base.

Holistic approach
- Postural optimization should address the whole person: conditioning, coordination, cognitive, socio‑affective, emotional‑volitional, creative‑expressive and mental factors in both static and dynamic contexts.
- Emphasize both intra‑systemic (within‑system) and inter‑systemic (between‑system) interactions when designing training situations.

Priorities for static posture optimization
- Balanced static muscular development.
- Maintain/improve static joint mobility (flexibility, elasticity).
- Teach center‑of‑gravity vs base‑of‑support relations (segmental and global balance).
- Promote dissociation between shoulder and pelvic girdles.
- Provide controlled sensory stimulation (kinaesthetic‑tactile, visual, vestibular).
- Train breathing and static relaxation through segmental and global postural perception and tonic rest control.

Therapeutic Benefits of T-BOW® Lateral Swinging
With rapid and precise movement adjustments!!
Placing the feet on the narrow edges of the T-BOW® requires bilateral ankle control, promoting leg verticality and excellent segmental independence.
Active knee movement outward enhances the valuable training of the functional screw connection of the entire leg’s longitudinal axis, in spiral dynamics, which is extremely beneficial by providing deep and fine stabilization of the foot, knee and hip joints, basis for a strong spinal foundation.

T-Box Optimizing T-BOW® Training and Therapy

https://www.t-bow.net/post/t-box-optimizing-t-bow-training-2?lang=en

The T-Box® optimizes the T-BOW®’s performance by enabling it to be positioned on elevated and inclined surfaces in a safe, precise, and practical manner. Two standout features of the T-BOW®—its arch, which mimics the natural curvature of the lumbar spine, and its high reactivity for quick and accurate postural adjustments—are greatly elevated. This optimization greatly benefits back extensions, spine-hip mobilizations, core strength exercises, the hip thrust, and postures for relaxation and unblock vertebrae of the spine. Additionally, the T-Box® serves as a versatile jump box with adjustable heights of 53, 63, and 73 cm. It can also be combined with a gym ladder to enhance a wide range of training and therapy options.

Core Training Personalization with the T-BOW®

Once it has been studied whether or not it is necessary to strengthening the trunk, the personalized selection of exercises in stable and unstable positions of the T-BOW® is essential to achieve an effective optimization of the strength-stability of the trunk-pelvis complex, both for the individual who seeks health in their daily activities as for the elite athlete.

Postural disposition: a) anti-flexion, anti-extension, anti-rotation and anti-lateral tilt (bilateral/unilateral); b) supine/prone, lateral and vertical/inverted (extended/flexed segments).
Ex*****on surface: a) flat / +- arched, b) level of reactivity (+- soft).
Static, dynamic (+- slow-fast, +- elastic, +- ballistic, +- reactive) and combined static-dynamic (fixed/mobile zone) muscular conditions.
Overloads oriented towards maximum strength, rapid strength or endurance strength (with one’s own body, free weights, medicine balls, rubber bands,...).
Balance and rebalancing situations (biomechanical and sensory variations).
Coordinative variations of ex*****on (motor control, spatial implementation and temporal adequacy) of the trunk-pelvis complex.
Space-time and rhythmic optimizations.
Decision making and unforeseen situations.
Associated breathing techniques.
Static-dynamic relaxation and regeneration adjuvant supplements.
Static-dynamic muscular balance of the most important muscle groups, protagonists-antagonists, of the trunk-pelvis complex.
Tendinous-articular unloading, joint mobility and muscular elasticity at a local and global level of the trunk-pelvis complex.
Consider the No-Risk Abs Principles by Blandine Calais-Germain

Applicability: in group fitness classes, personal training, elite sports preparation, physiotherapy, postural and injury rehabilitation.
