Nitrox isn’t about staying down longer for its own sake — it’s about understanding your gas, your limits, and your dive planning more precisely. The course pairs one academic session with two dives putting the theory into practice, on the boat, in a small group. You’ll come away with an SSI certification and a genuinely useful tool for repetitive and multi-day diving. Open to certified Open Water Divers.

Lanzarote isn’t one dive destination, it’s four. The sheltered reserve at Playa Blanca, the dramatic walls of Puerto del Carmen, the steady shore diving around Arrecife and Costa Teguise, and the wilder, more remote Chinijo Archipelago to the north all offer something different, all shaped by the same volcanic origin. Water stays around 18°C even in winter, so a 7mm suit works year-round. We pick sites daily based on the group and conditions rather than a fixed route.

Just a couple of minutes off the boat from Puerto del Carmen, the Harbour Wrecks are one of those sites that rewards a single dive with six shipwrecks. Start deep at the propeller of the furthest wreck, around 38–40 metres, then work your way up through the rest as they get shallower and better preserved, with the shallowest tucked right against the harbour wall. Keep an eye on the sand for angel sharks and rays, and check the wreckage itself for cardinalfish, scorpionfish, and the odd nudibranch. It’s a dive that shifts character as you ascend, part wreck exploration, part reef life, all within reach of the harbour.

Why do so many divers end up with the wrong mask? It usually comes down to buying on looks or brand rather than fit. A proper seal test takes thirty seconds and tells you more than any review ever will. Skirt material, lens volume, and your own face shape all matter more than price. Get the fit right first, then worry about the extras.

This is roughly what a morning with us looks like, start to finish. You’re met by the team, kitted out properly, and given the time and space to set up without feeling rushed. A briefing on the day’s sites, a short boat ride to the dive site, then two dives with a coffee in between while we swap our tanks over. Nothing complicated, just done properly.

Your basic diver course starts calm and controlled in the sheltered bay at Puerto Calero, where you’ll get comfortable underwater before anything else. Then in the afternoon, we head out to Punta Tiñosa, one of Lanzarote’s most impressive dive sites, with volcanic terraces, angel sharks, rays and hidden caverns. It’s the perfect way to go from complete beginner to properly hooked, all in a single day.
