Congratulations to everyone who shot PRS Spain in Tardienta this past weekend. Enhorabuena a todos.

Flags across the range, each reading a slightly different piece of air, and a firing line full of people turning all of it into a wind call before the timer starts.

Good to see Mini AB and Portable Mini units out among the setups, especially in Tardienta, about an hour from Zaragoza, where they're built.

The wind doesn't have to follow the bullet all the way to the target to matter.

Imagine 10 mph of crosswind through the first 100 yards, then calm air for the rest of the flight.

It would be easy to look downrange, see relatively calm conditions and discount what is happening around the firing point.

The bullet doesn't get that reset.

Wind encountered early can give the bullet a lateral velocity component. When it leaves that patch of wind, the force changes, but the lateral motion it already picked up doesn't simply disappear.

That's an important distinction when you're reading a range.

A calm flag at 600 yards doesn't cancel the wind you're measuring where you're shooting. And a strong reading at your position doesn't tell you what the entire trajectory is doing.

Measure the air you can measure. Then use the flags, grass, mirage and terrain to understand what changes after that.

The bullet carries some of what happened earlier with it.
