FIRST DOJO OF KENYU RYU KARATE DO IN ADDIS ABABA - ETHIOPIA

For many people, kata becomes something to memorize—but historically, it was meant to preserve combat knowledge that could not always be openly taught. Every movement carried intention: strikes, traps, joint manipulation, balance breaking, timing, and survival principles hidden beneath repetition and form. Over time, as karate spread globally and became more structured and competitive, much of that deeper application was either simplified, misunderstood, or lost entirely. That’s why kata creates constant debate today. Some see it as performance and tradition, while others believe it still contains practical fighting concepts waiting to be understood. The real question is not whether kata works—it’s whether people still study it deeply enough to uncover what it was originally designed to teach.

Greatness is never given—it’s built through discipline, patience, and relentless effort. Every step forward, no matter how small, shapes a stronger mind and a sharper spirit. True power doesn’t come from talent alone, but from the courage to keep going when it’s hard, to stay humble while improving, and to outwork yesterday’s version of yourself. The journey demands consistency, but those who embrace it become unstoppable.

What this idea questions is not history itself, but what has been added over time and why. Systems like belts bring structure, motivation, and a clear path for progression—but they can also shift focus from personal growth to external validation. When recognition becomes visible, it’s easy for people to start chasing rank instead of refinement. This creates a tension between tradition and modern practice: are these systems helping preserve the art, or subtly changing its purpose? It’s a debate with no simple answer, but it forces one important reflection—are you training to improve, or to be seen improving?

True mastery is not the moment you stop being a beginner—it is the moment you stop forgetting that you were one. Progress in any disciplined path is built on a quiet agreement with yourself: to keep learning even when you are already capable, and to stay humble even when others see skill. Growth does not erase the earlier version of you; it refines it, sharpens it, and turns it into awareness. The real danger is not failure, but the belief that you have “arrived,” because that is when development slows and curiosity fades. The strongest practitioners are not the ones who outgrow their beginnings, but the ones who preserve the mindset that made them start in the first place.

Kenyu Ryu – Storia e Tradizione

Japan 2026 🇯🇵🥋
Okinawa, the birthplace of Karate.
Tomari, Naha, Shuri… places that still speak.
Then Osaka, at the Hombu Dojo with Soke Aiko Tomoyori.
Intense training, deep study, alongside the masters.
Soke appreciated our effort in preserving Kenyu Ryu.
That means more than words.
This year was even more special: my wife Mara was with me ❤️
But what stays with me the most is simple:
seeing my master always find 5 minutes… to practice a kata.
That’s where you understand everything.
