Kulumsa Agricultural Mechanization Research and Training Center- KATC

The training program organized by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with the Kulumsa Agricultural Mechanization Research and Training Center has been successfully completed.

The participants were drawn from all regional states of Ethiopia, including the regional Bureau of Agriculture, the Agricultural Mechanization Directorate, farm machinery operators, agricultural mechanization experts from farmers unions, and farm machinery service providers, with inclusive participation of women.

The training content focused on scale-based farm machinery and equipment operation, utilization, and management. It covered key areas such as the selection of appropriate machinery for different farm sizes, efficient operation techniques, routine maintenance practices, and safety procedures. In addition, the training emphasized resource optimization, cost-effective utilization, and sustainable management of agricultural machinery. Practical sessions were also included to enhance participants’ hands-on skills and build their confidence in operating and managing farm equipment effectively under real field conditions.

This program has been particularly unique and meaningful to me compared to previous training and monitoring activities I have participated in. It provided a valuable platform for strengthening both our theoretical understanding and practical skills in agricultural mechanization, especially in the areas of professional management, operation, and maintenance.

Kulumsa Agricultural Mechanization Research and Training Center has been providing significant contributions in modernizing agricultural operations and enhanced mechanization practices through capacity building on farm machinery utilization, operation, maintenance, selection, and overall farm machinery and implement management.

Beyond training, the Center plays a vital role in adapting and promoting appropriate mechanization technologies suited to local agro-ecological conditions and farming systems. Through applied research, field demonstrations, and pilot testing, it evaluates the performance, efficiency, and economic viability of agricultural machinery, enabling farmers, cooperatives, and service providers to make informed decisions. The Center also serves as a hub for knowledge transfer by strengthening the skills of extension agents, technicians, and machinery operators, this supports the sustainable use of mechanization technologies, reduces machinery downtime.
