2026 Tour de France - Stage 6 Results🟡
🥇Tadej Pogacar🇸🇮
🥈Jonas Vingegaard🇩🇰
🥉Isaac Del Toro🇲🇽
After 5 eventful days the Tour finally reached the Pyrenees. Stage 6 featured three very demanding climbs, including the mighty Col du Tourmalet. Before the stage everyone expected that UAE would blow up the stage on the Tourmalet, so it wasn't a huge surprise that Visma tried to counter that move by trying to send a rider up the road.
Campenaerts attacked right after the gun and Mads Pedersen joined him. The duo rode together at the front for quite a long time, but UAE didn't let them get a huge lead. The Dane won the intermediate sprint and then decided to drop back into the peloton, leaving the Belgian all alone in front.
He got caught just at the foot of the first categorized climb, so the attacks started all over again. However, UAE were always in control of the situation, they never let a group get away for a long time. As a result only Ben O'Connor managed to gain any ground before the Col d'Aspin, where UAE began to shred the peloton into pieces.
On the Aspin Politt and Wellens set the pace and many riders started to struggle, including Movistar's leader Uijtdebroeks, who later abandoned the race. Ayuso was also briefly dropped due to an unfortunate mechanical, but he came back relatively quickly. At the top we a saw a French duel for the KOM points between Paret-Peintre and Martínez, with the latter one taking maximum points.
Wellens continued to pace on the earlier parts of the Tourmalet, however the real suffering began when Grosschartner took over. Jorgenson, Arensman, Riccitello, HIndley, Pidcock and race leader Traeen all got dropped under the pace set by the Austrian. With 8.6km to go McNulty took over and reduced the group even further. Then it was time for Yates to take over, before the final lead out by Del Toro.
With 5km to the top Pogacar made his move and instantly dropped everybody. Vingegaard was able to hold the gap stable at around 10 seconds for a couple of kilometers, but then the Slovenian switched into another gear and extended his lead to 30 seconds by the top. Seixas, Del Toro and Lipowitz were already more than a minute behind, with Evenepoel, Ayuso, Skjlemose and Martínez closely following them.
On the descent the 3rd and the 4th group merged, while Vingegaard lost even more time and was over a minute behind the world champion when the final ascent started. In the end the Slovenian went onto win the stage 2:38 ahead of Vingegaard. The other favorites arrived together a further 19 seconds behind. Next to the stage win Pogacar also took back the yellow jersey and now has a commanding lead in the GC.
