Underground venue and hotspot for music fans, with a hefty sound, spacious dancefloor and a lineup of local and international DJs every week.

Opened in 2013, Kaiku has steadily kept itself in the heart of Helsinki nightlife. Located in an old factory building between the live venue/club Kuudes Linja and Bar Siltanen, Kaiku offers a selection of best international and local guests every week. A great sound system has also always been a part of Kaiku's reputation. Reappearing guest DJ's include Tama Sumo, I-F, Helena Hauff, Horse Meat Disco, Prosumer, Fred P, Hunee, Dixon, Kim Ann Foxman and The Black Madonna among many others. In 2014, The Guardian asked top DJ's to list their favourite European clubs. Kaiku was chosen as one of the 25 venues by Amsterdam-based Young Marco – "If I designed a club it would look like this one. A big wooden box, a great sound system, a Rotary mixer in the booth and working turntables (which is not a given these days, unfortunately). Combine that with a very open-minded crowd and great programming and you have Kaiku. The people behind this place are in it for all the right reasons and pure love of music – and you will notice it when you’re there. "

Illustrations and posters for Kaiku by Linda Linko won the European Design Awards in 2014. Recently Kaiku was featured in Resident Advisor’s RA In Residence series and hosted an all-night Boiler Room broadcast.

SAT 24/10 – Kaiku presents: Efdemin (DE)

f the previous times that Efdemin slayed Kaiku to absolute smithereens are anything to go by, then the 24th of October will go down as a very special occasion. Active since the turn of the millenium, Efdemin today shows no signs of slowing down; since last playing Kaiku he has released a celebrated album on Ostgut Ton as well as a ballistic EP on Dekmantel. For the past two decades, his sound has remained a constant exploration of techno and house, especially of the deeper and more minimal realms. In a club setting, this entails setting out on a psychedelic voyage towards the hidden center of the night, accompanied at times with six turntables and no stones left unturned.

Apart from his own sprawling discography, Efdemin is also a revered remixer, having left his idiosyncratic mark on tracks by the likes of Depeche Mode, Moby, DJ Koze, and Orlando Voom. Certainly, the accolades proliferate, but the real testimony to Efdemin’s staying power unfolds on the dancefloor, so see you on the 24th. Opening the night are Helsinki’s headiest, Katerina and Lil Tony, both cut from the same lifer cloth. In room two, get ready for the coming cold with Polar Dance featuring Winter Games, Somepoe, DJ Hulluella, Annika, and DØNLØW.

FRI 23/10 – Kaiku presents: DVS1 (US)

That interplanetary beam of pitch-perfect techno executed with diamond-cut precision, also known by the name of DVS1, is targeting Kaiku once again on the 23rd of October. Operating like a modern day Phil Spector, a DVS1 set presents you with an insurmountable and immersive wall of sound that is hypnotic, instinctive, and executed with flawless technique. There is something ritualistic in seeing DVS1 play, his presence in the booth emanates a long tradition of sweaty warehouse raves and community-driven shared euphoria.

His many initiatives such as Enjoy Right Now, Support Organize Sustain, and Aslice have been important endeavours to advocate and preserve the beautiful essence of club culture while also building better support structures. These are all examples of a labour of love; an undying love for the culture that shines through from every DVS1 production and performance. Come and bask in its glory on the 23rd. Opening up the night are Una and Denzel, both hermetical in the studio and heretical in the booth, a wild adventure in sound awaits you with these Raiders of the Lost ARP. In room two, a bountiful buffet awaits as MU###E (MX), FemKult, Sala and DJ Juls Sanchez take the reins.

FRI 6/11 – Kaiku presents: The Hacker (FR)

November, the most somber of months, brings with it some very fitting guests. Perhaps none more so than the return of The Hacker, returning to Kaiku on Friday the 6th. His previous appearances at the club, in 2022 and twice in 2019, were all perfect melanges of electro, techno, EBM, shared sweat and joy on the dancefloor, and this one proves to be no different. This year marks 30 years since Michel Amato released the first The Hacker record into the world and it’s been a wild ride. Along the way he’s been one of the founding fathers of electroclash, toured the world over many a time, released countless records, including his legendary collaborations with Miss Kittin.

The Hacker’s productions fuse a wide variety of influences, from new wave to techno, EBM to Italo, punk-funk to electro, always with that indelible stamp of futural nostalgia. Remaining exceedingly active, last year alone saw the release of three excellent EP’s on labels like Bo****lo A Parigi and Phantasy Sound, The Hacker shows no signs of slowing down and we couldn’t be more grateful. Opening the night are local underground wizard Basit Soomro and the brand ambassador of dark Italo and snappy snares, Kristiina Männikkö. In room two, it's Racemic with Yotai Seon (hybrid/live), Minus, Vi6era & Mortal Interest.

SAT 17/10 – Kaiku presents: Carlos Valdes (NL)

On the 17th of October, a night of joyous and freewheeling energy awaits you at Kaiku, channeled by the Amsterdam-based house authority Carlos Valdes. A long-standing pillar of the electronic music and LGBTQIA+ communities in Amsterdam, it is high time to have the maestro come precide over the proceedings at Kaiku. You can expect frenzied and frivolous records mixed immaculately, flashes of acid, catchy vocal snippets, and that timeless pumping thump of ‘90’s house music, coalescing seamlessly with its more robust and techno-er siblings.

He’s one of the founders of the iconic IsBurning club nights that have spread the gospel of inclusive queer-friendly dancefloors and collective euphoria across the world, it is safe to say that Carlos Valdes has in-depth understanding of how to make a floor work that body. His sets are tantalizingly woven sonic webs which draw the dancer ever nearer, echoing a call of shared love for the music and the culture. Joining Carlos in the chant are Mr. A and Joseysradios, two fountainheads of bliss on the dancefloor. Taking over room two is In The X with Blackoutt b2b Doan, ladiø, LonGEE, mbreezi, and mizu.

FRI 16/10 – S**T DISCO x Vulged

On the 16th of October, two collective forces of take-no-prisoners techno come together at Kaiku to offer you their visions of what a dancefloor can and should be. From the Netherlands, representing the Amsterdam-based collective Vulged, are Beau Didier and Isaiah, both focusing on the raw and gritty ends of techno. Imposing rhythmic structures, stripped-down productions, maximum impact; it is high-velocity music with unrelenting grooves that is delivered with the precision of a machinist.

Last year during Complex Pride, Beau Didier tore the roof off of Kuudes Linja, it’ll be a pleasure to see the Vulged energy fill Kaiku’s room one. Their kindred spirits in fast & furious dance music, S**T DISCO, are hosting this symposium. In room one, there’s the inimitable C4KE, high in intensity and hyper in speed, opening the night with a b2b set avec VNI.RV. In room two, the other half of S**T DISCO, €TOM, is sandwiched between DJ Ricky and Jeny; it’ll be a cool six-hour journey into pleasuredome aboard a bullet train.

SAT 31/10 – Kaiku Halloween: Andy Garvey (AU)

The season of ”trick or treat?” is soon upon us. This Halloween at Kaiku, the answer is why choose when you can have both? Ample tricks and the sweetest treats are provided by Australian rising star Andy Garvey, a sorceress specializing in the proggy, techy, and swampy sides of electronic music. Her sound explores the more textural and bouncy dimensions of techno, casting off excursions into its hazy and psychedelic horizons. Immersive and embodied, Garvey’s sonic world is reflected in the output of her decade-long independent label, radio show, and club concept Pure Space, channelling the heady and hearty realms of Australian underground dance music to the world and back.

The best kinds of musical practices often are exercises in word-building and Andy Garvey is no exception to that. The world she crafts is an inviting and boundless place with a focus on the emotional aspects of the music-body-connection. A connection at its most visceral in a club setting, so come spend a trick and treat Halloween at Kaiku. Guiding you into the mouth of the labyrinth are local trickster and treatster HiToshi and a rare Kaiku appearance by the effervescent and enticing emkay, currently traveling around the world as one third of the downtempo ensemble trickpony. In room two, high stakes fun avec Club Geeli’s own DJ Lassi Lassi & Cex.

SAT 10/10 – Cherry On Top: Danielle (UK)

On Saturday, the 10th of October, MALLA’s rambunctious club night Cherry On Top returns to Kaiku. It boasts a line-up that’ll put some pep in your step, as Danielle, the long-standing Bristol-based NTS Radio host, highly combustible DJ, and all-around pillar of the local electronic music community debuts at Kaiku. Whether frenzying dancefloors with her forward-thinking DJ sets or building up other women and non-binary DJs via Mix Nights, her non-profit organization, Danielle brings a fresh and curious perspective on the notion of a club night. Danielle is joined by MALLAMÁRET, Hanna Ojanen and a live performance by Fleur Amser.

In room two, the night kicks off with Cherry On Top Bingo, hosted by Sista Sista and Aino Collin. Arrive early for a chance to win some prizes and other surprises. From there, Aino keeps the momentum going with a lucky dip of everything between French electro and poppy house rollers. Up next is the French ambassador of ’90s house and techno, Gigi Safari, before we close out the night with the local techno connoisseur Saffet.

FRI 9/10 – Kaiku presents: DJ Stingray 313 (US)

This Friday, it’s time for a certified classic as the balaclava-clad champion of all things Detroit and electro returns to Kaiku. It’s of course DJ Stingray 313, the iconic DJ and producer closely affiliated with Detroit’s electro legends Drexciya. It’s been a while, namely seven years (and before that in 2016 and New Year’s Day 2015) since Sherard Ingram, the man behind the mask, has wreaked havoc at Kaiku. This is understandable as he is the definition of an in-demand DJ, touring steadily over the world spreading the pulverizing sound of Afro-futuristic and aquatic electro and techno. Genre definitions aside, what characterizes Stingray’s sound is a fast, ferocious, and futural approach to techno, often relaying itself through complex rhythmic patterns and raw, metallic textures merging with pulses of deep sea echoes, all mixed impeccably with cybernetic precision.

His discography boasts collaborations with techno legends like Carl Craig and Moodymann as well as releases on labels ran by contemporary top-tier producers like DJ Haus and Lorenzo Senni, which goes to show that the Stingray’s tentacles reach far and wide. Setting the mood just right for the night are local top-tier beat jugglers Trixy and Sala. And stepping into room two, you’ll be bound by the spell of Juicy Drop with babybel b2b Kaero, Tito Cascara, BINA BB and MILI.

SAT 3/10 – Kaiku presents: Fumiya Tanaka (JP)

On the first Saturday of October, Fumiya Tanaka is gracing the northern night with his deep record bags of house and techno of the minimal persuasion. With an intricate eye to detail and a robust heart for lively dancefloors, his DJ sets and productions are a masterclass in understanding the metrics of making people dance. This understanding doesn’t come overnight and in Tanaka’s case, it has been honed over the three decades he has been DJ’in, producing music, and running record labels. He is one of the definite pioneers of techno in Japan, having founded the influential Torema Records in ’93, organizing the frenzied and long-standing Chaos club nights for over 25 years as well as launching his own Sundance Records in 2008.

Still as relevant as ever, one only needs to turn to his slew of releases on Perlon Records, kindred spirits in minimal house, a few years back to hear that Tanaka today is on the top of his game. Or, if you prefer seeing, come to Kaiku on the 3rd of October and watch the master in action before your very eyes. Playing mainly vinyl and mixing with meticulousness rarely seen, a Tanaka set is a thing of beauty to behold. The delectable duo of Lil Tony & Eric Filipus opens up the night, a perfect pairing of precision and passion between the two. And in room two, it’s Stardust Disco with Tero Männikkö, DJ Alekos & Ben Bostik.

FRI 2/10 – Guilty Pleasures

Guilty feet, it has been said, have got no rhythm. Guilty Pleasures, however, have it in spades and this Friday it will wash all over Kaiku. For this iteration, the fun-loving tricksters of Guilty Pleasures have invited two Swedes with a passion for Big Rhythm, F***y Vilhelmsson and Benjamin Baniassiadi, to work their magic; both of them are fluent in genre-fluidism and experts in layering vibrant energies for the dancefloor. They brought the house down at this year’s Flow Festival with their b2b set and now it is happening again. Expect anything from uplifting disco to hammering Miami bass and, of course, heavy doses of everything-in-between. Prolonged exposure may cause symptoms such as feelings of levitation, sustained euphoria, unexplainably losing track of time, and an intense yearning for more.

Catering to your pleasures from the get-go is a ballistic b2b set between Long Legs and hotleevibling as well as the always revelatory SomBadi. And the fun doesn’t stop there, just hop on over to room two and you’ll be greeted by a sight for sore eyes, Hitoshi & Friends, the musical equivalent of having 8 cocktails with your best mates.
