"Match Report June 2nd (X-Div) Empire Vs Helsinki Metropolitan

***Empire squeaky bummed one passed the Metropolitans***
Led by a 4 wicket haul from Tom and a well composed 40 by Kanchan.The Empire 2nd's were able to hold off a spirited Metropolitans by just 2 runs in an action packed final over.
Empire won the toss and chose to bat. It was sunny, but the clouds were rolling in. After a circumspect start against some inconsistent bowling and a mat that was playing some tricks, Empire were around the 60 mark at the 10 over for 2 wickets, a solid platform to kick-on. Some good running by Kanchan with his partners kept the scoreboard ticking.
After a couple of dodgy LBW decisions, we were still on track as we put down the accelerator as Kanchan, Chris and especially Dave and A***n biffed as many balls as they could to the boundary. The last overs were quite profitable for Empire and we got to respectable total of 136, about par, we believed.
Under overcast skies, the Metros got their innings underway. The Metros got off to a steady start going about at 5 an over. There were chances though as a couple of balls fell short of the slips. The Metros were one wicket down going into the 9th over and though scoring slowly in with a good shot.
But Tom was able to put the Metros on the back-foot in a 4 over spell of superb leg-spin bowling picking up 4 wickets in his first three overs. With 36 runs to get of the last 4 overs the equation was looking difficult for the Metros, but to give them credit their running was very aggressive and with a boundary here and there, they needed 17 off the last two.
A big wicket of a set batsman by Dave in the 19th over was key and with 9 to get off the final over, the Metros fell just short as A***n was able to restrict the boundaries.
Another heart-stopping game with everything in it in the final over. A well-played match by both teams and a good start to the Empire 2nd's X-Div campaign. See you at the Cinders."

Today at Myllypuron Pallomylly, players from Kerava Cricket Club, Helsinki Metropolitan Cricket Club, and Stadin Krikettikerho - SKK joined together before training for a minutes silence in memory of Phillip Hughes.

After a great season of cricket it was time to see who is the HMCC table tennis wizard. It is Oliver, Iikka presenting the unique trophy.

Plenty of cricket everywhere this weekend! Marylebone CC is touring here and playing against Cricket Finland since it is the first ever . Meanwhile tomorrow, Helsinki Metropolitan Cricket Club is touring eastern Helsinki. First at 10am it is Empire Cricket Club 's X-pire -HMCC and then at 1pm TöKS-HMCC. Should be sunny, so see you all at Herttoniemi Oval, Siilitie 12.

MCC leave for Finland tour A twelve man squad has set off for Finland as MCC's second overseas tour of 2014 gets underway on Thursday 5 June. The group will be led by York CC captain Robert Flack who will work alongside team manager Robert Ibbotson.
