The Rockingham race was also an unofficial "Finnish overseas championship" race 😁

Contest for the first place was tight since Samu and Marko had the same number of round wins. But based on better time on the second eliminations round the win goes to Marko.

And the full list looks like this:
1. Marko Lantto
2. Samu Kemppainen
3. Juha Hintukainen
4. Harri Piensalmi

Congrats for all!

Rockingham, eliminations.

Start of Sunday wasn't too promising. During warmup just before the first round we noticed a small fuel leak from somewhere around the fuel filter. After quick check it turned out that housing of the filter was cracked. Since there was only about 20 minutes to the first round this was naturally pretty tricky situation. We went through our leftover parts collection and Sushi's parts and managed to find pieces of puzzle to make a bypass connection for the filter. And even managed to get it ready just in time but there wasn't time to test if it holds...

The first round was against Rebel Glover. This time everything worked as planned. The bike launched straight and run through the whole track resulting a nice 6.69s time. And since Rebel had some trouble right after the launch it was a clear win.

Second round was against Ricky House. We made just small adjustments for the clutch to get 60ft better. The first half of the run was very even but then on the end half Ricky pushed past Marko and gained a win. So then it was time to start packing the trailer...

Overall it was a great event for us with highs and lows. We had a good share of troubles but managed to overcome them and make some good results after all!

Rockingham, qualification day.

Due to rainy weather we got only one qualification round. Since the weather was more "normal" for us we had high hopes for a good run. Unfortunately the bike did a small jump at launch and headed towards center line. Marko did great job keeping the throttle open and the bike in the lane but still went out of the prepped surface which resulted a bad tire spin. Time was 8.1 something which resulted 14th position.

Sunday looks sunny but pretty cold. We are against Rebel Glover on the first round.

Not too much to tell about Friday testing. We were struggling to find good fuel and ignition settings for hot and humid weather. The bike dropped a cylinder on both test passes. The better one went up to 1/8 mile resulting 7.1 something time.

Well, today the weather will be completely different, much colder. So it will be different setup any ways. Morning seems to be rainy but hopefully it clears up soon.

Update from Rockinham.

On Thursday we did some testing. Weather was pretty hot so finding a good setup was a bit challenging. On the first pass the bike launched pretty well, 1.13 60ft, but then did a pretty bad tire shake. Due to that the bike drifted accross the center line. And broke the chain.

Fixing the chain was quite an effort since we didn't have a spare chain and only replacement that we found was a dual row instead of original single row. So the chain guards needed some tweaking to make enough room for the wider chain. But we got the bike ready soon enough to make another test run.

Unfortunately the second run wasn't that great. The engine dropped a hole at a half second after the hit. Apparently the fueling was just too much for the weather.

Testing continues on Friday. Qualifications on Saturday and Eliminations on Sunday.

A quick recap from Sunday.

E1 - After some back-and-forth changes with the ladder we ended up against Samu. Just typical luck to have both Finns in the race facing each other on the first round... The bike launched pretty ok but again dropped a hole around 3.5s. But Samu spun the tire badly so we got a win.

E2 - Against John Toth. Some adjustments for fuel and ignition to keep the engine running until the finish line. Well, the changes were to the right direction since the bike kept going for a second longer but then dropped a hole again and the result was 7.0s. JT made a nice 6.8s pass and beated us.

Then it was time to start packing up and planning logistics for oncoming Rockingham race...

AMRA Beech Bend race, Bowling Green. Make is riding the Nitro V60 for a change.

Testing on Friday and qualifications on Saturday were quite a struggle for us. There was a mysterious issue somewhere in clutch - primary drive area seizing the engine every now and then. And in addition the engine liked to drop the rear cylinder very easily even with safe tuning setups.

So we managed to do only one test run on Friday. On Q1 the engine died before 60ft so no any real time. We had to skip the Q2 while investigating the clutch problem but finally we figured it out. For Q3 the plan was to get just an A to B pass with a safe setup which worked out half way. The bike launched ok but still dropped the rear cylinder before 1/8 mile resulting 7.3s time.

We qualified as 13th and we'll face Jason Leeper on E1. Let's see how that goes.

Hope to see you.

Last weekend we were testing the blower bike at Motopark track.

Friday started by setting up the camp and getting the bike ready. Since the day was very misty until early afternoon there wasn't huge rush. We got to the line-up when a short rain stopped the racing. Fortunately the track crew got the track dried pretty quickly so there was still time for one try before track closing time.

The plan was to do just a short pass to see if everything works as planned, slightly over 60ft or so. Although Marko said that he might run it a bit longer if everything feels fine. The bike started fine as usual, then a healthy sounding burnout and staging the bike. The bike launched hard and kept running strongly although sounding maybe slightly rough. Unfortunately it was heading towards center line right from the start so eventually Marko clicked off the 1/8 mile reflector. The time slip was looking pretty nice too: 1.02s to 60ft, 2.68s to 330ft and 4.03s to 1/8 mile.

When checking the log and bike we found a couple of less pleasant surprises. The front cylinder was dropped off around 3s but that was almost expected since the fueling was intentionally adjusted on the fat side. But a worse thing was that also the oil pressure was dropped about at the same time and due to that the rear cylinder rod bearings were toast. And the rod was damaged too. So some work ahead again.

Unfortunately our spare rods were missing one essential modification so we couldn't use them. But Jaska Salakari promised to bring a modified rod on Saturday morning. So while waiting for that we got everything else ready and also investigated possible reasons for oil pressure loss. Once we got the new rod the bike was assembled again pretty quickly. Unfortunately mysterious oil pressure issues continued during warm-up so we had to continue troubleshooting. After several checks and tests it was finally looking like we got the issue fixed and there was still time to make it to the last round of the day. But then the rain hit again and racing was called off for the day. So no any runs for us on Saturday.

Weather forecast for Sunday was looking pretty bad too. Maybe some rain and in any case it would be very cold. On Sunday morning it was looking that the day was going to be rather dry but it was pretty windy and cold indeed, around 8°C. Any way, we warmed up the bike and headed to the line-up. But while standing there shivering Marko came to conclusion that it isn't worth of the risk to hit the track at those conditions. So we headed back to the pits and started packing up...

So results for the weekend were somewhat mixed. Naturally it would have been good to get more runs and get the oil pressure problem sorted out for sure. But on the other hand the only run was pretty promising after all. Strong performance up to half track especially considering the conservative setup. And besides the bearing failure the engine was looking happy without any signs of detonation or melting. So looking forward for the next season!
