Osu!
Happy birthday Soshi!
🥋🇯🇵 HAPPY 78TH BIRTHDAY, SOSHI KAZUYUKI HASEGAWA!
We celebrate the 78th birthday of Soshi Kazuyuki Hasegawa, 9th Dan, founder and Soshi of IKO World Zen-Kyokushin.
Born on August 28, 1948 in Tokushima, Hasegawa Soshi entered the Kyokushin Honbu Dojo on his 19th birthday in 1967. Only two years later, he took 3rd place at the historic 1st All Japan Open Karate Championship in 1969. In 1970, at only 22 years old, he became Champion of the 2nd All Japan Open, defeating some of the strongest karateka of Kyokushin’s pioneering generation.
Known in Japan as the 「元祖 小さな巨人」– “The Original Little Giant”, Soshi Hasegawa became one of the important karateka of Kyokushin’s early history and a direct student of Sosai Masutatsu Oyama. His name became associated with the legendary generation alongside Terutomo Yamazaki, Yoshiji Soeno and Hideyuki Ashihara.
But his legacy goes far beyond his own tournament victories. For more than half a century, Soshi Hasegawa has dedicated himself to teaching Kyokushin and developing the next generations, producing numerous All Japan and World Champions. Today, World Zen-Kyokushin continues with the purpose of passing the techniques and spirit he cultivated through decades of Kyokushin to future generations around the world. 🌏🥋
From all of us throughout the IKO World Zen-Kyokushin family, we wish Soshi Hasegawa good health, happiness and many more years together on the Kyokushin path. 🙏
