Day 2 news from the Czech Adventure Race, from Dejna Odvody, where its been very wet night.

The first night was mostly spent paddling. After the leading Slovenian team Pustolovec Rajd, the Czech-Swiss team Untamed arrived. They admitted that the Czech crew had managed to drink six beers between them during their six-hour paddle.

Day 2 started on a friendly note. The teams arrived at TA2 in good spirits, picked up their bikes and headed once again towards the race centre. Along the way, some of them even took a voluntary dip in the river to cool down, the heat was intense.

The big change came in the afternoon, when heavy, persistent rain set in and temperatures dropped below 16°C. Several hours later, the rain is still coming down hard, and the challenging conditions are widening the time gaps between the teams.

The latest reports come from the Slovenian team, who are now battling the cold while tackling the orienteering section. Close behind them is Untamed, who arrived at the orienteering course shortly before 10 p.m. They plan to complete it before heading straight for the finish, skipping the final part of the race.

There is now a significant gap behind the two leading teams. The remaining teams are racing against the only cut-off of the race: they must leave the race centre by midnight to start the final and “royal” MTB discipline. The forecast suggests that the rain could ease considerably later in the night.

With temperatures dropping, racers are doing whatever they can to stay warm and creativity is in full swing. At the checkpoint at Hasenburg Castle, one member of Team Kompar emptied two rubbish bins and pulled one of the bin bags over his clothes as an improvised rain and wind cover.

And at 10 p.m., the MINI race for pairs got underway in the pouring rain. The two-person teams have an 18-hour time limit to complete the course.

The 23rd Czech Adventure Race Is Underway

At 10 a.m., the 23rd edition of the legendary Czech Adventure Race got underway. This year’s field is a little smaller, with just seven four-person teams and one two-person team on the start line.

The race takes place in the area north of Prague, in the České středohoří (Central Bohemian Uplands), a landscape known for its rugged volcanic terrain, distinctive cone- and dome-shaped hills, and deep valleys carved by the Elbe River.

After the opening swim-run section, which took around 30 minutes, the teams set off on the first MTB stage. They spent approximately four hours on the bikes before reaching TA2, where they continued with a trekking loop that took around three and a half hours. By then, the gaps between the teams had already started to grow.

As the first night begins, most of the racers are now heading by canoe towards the race centre. The first team is expected to arrive around midnight.

The Slovenian team Pustolovec Rajd is currently leading, followed by the Czech-Swiss team untamed, last year’s winners. Close behind them is the Czech team SK SP Kylešovice.

But the race is still in its very early stages, with plenty of kilometres and challenges ahead. Let’s see how the standings develop throughout the night.

Hundreds of photos and the latest race updates are available on the Czech Adventure Race page.
