Taki Mai VS 2 Fresh
One Love Touch Tournament
09/06/2025
After 3 incredible years of dominance and proudly holding the Holy Grail of Nadi Touch – the Tuwawa Shield – the Taki Men’s team entered the 2025 season with fresh faces and high hopes. With around 7 debutants joining the ranks, the campaign began with a sense of transition and adjustment, and understandably, a slow start.
Yet, true to the Taki Men’s spirit, the boys rallied. They battled their way through the season, showing grit, unity, and flashes of brilliance when it mattered most. Their resilience saw them push through the playoffs and into the Grand Final – a remarkable feat in itself, considering the rebuilding phase.
The Grand Final mirrored the team’s season in many ways: a hesitant start saw them fall behind 2–4 in the first half. But in typical Taki Mai fashion, the second half was a showcase of heart and hunger. A rapid-fire series of tries brought the game back to life, and momentum seemed to shift their way. However, a perfectly timed intercept by the Finals MVP dashed any chances of a comeback.
It was the first time all season Taki Men’s fielded a full squad, and while the talent was evident, it was also clear that cohesion in both attack and defense wasn’t quite there. Elements exploited those gaps with precision, particularly in their dump-split combinations, and made every opportunity count.
Congratulations to our brothers from 🫡 a hard-fought, well-deserved win. Your persistence and ex*****on were top-class 👏👏👏
To our families, friends, and loyal supporters – thank you for riding with us through the highs and lows. We’re sorry we couldn’t bring it home this time, but your support means everything 🙏
Taki Men’s will be back. Regrouped, refocused, and ready to reclaim what’s ours 🫡
