Five women. Five very different UTMB weeks.
A 1–2 in OCC for Yngvild Kaspersen and Toni McCann . A debut 100 mile effort for Eleanor Whyman-Davis which was sadly cut short by illness but takes nothing away from near perfect preparation. overcoming far bigger challenges away from running to make it to the finish line. She also only started running in February after serious injury. And Jenna Bensko jen balancing training with a full-time job, and racing outside of the USA for the first time.
Different circumstances, different outcomes, but five performances I’m incredibly proud to have played a small part in.
Being married to a female professional athlete and now being a girl dad has made me think more about my role in women’s sport. I want Phoebe to grow up knowing there’s no space in sport that isn’t equally hers. And I think as men, we have a responsibility to help make that true, to support and champion them wherever we can.
Women’s sport doesn’t need saving. It needs investing in, celebrating and being given the opportunity to be brilliant.
A very proud coach, a proud husband and an even prouder girl dad!
