I haven’t posted anything about the fire.

Not because I don’t care.
Quite the opposite.

Like many of you, I am devastated.

Over the past days, I’ve only shared the messages from those directly involved. I didn’t feel the need to add another voice while firefighters, volunteers and local organizations were facing something far more important.

Fontainebleau Boulder was never meant to be just another climbing page.

It began as a way to document the beauty, the history and the fragile heritage of this forest. A living archive of a place that has shaped generations of climbers.

This week reminded us, in the hardest possible way, that this heritage is not permanent.

I know forests change. They always have.
Storms, droughts, fires… Fontainebleau has evolved throughout its history.

But knowing that doesn’t make it easier when change happens so suddenly.

What hurts me most is thinking about the wildlife, the ecosystems, and the landscapes that have been transformed in just a few hours.

Right now, the forest remains closed, and like so many others, I can’t even walk its trails.

There is a strange feeling of grief in that.

Not only for what has been lost, but for a place that has given so much to so many of us.

I don’t know what the forest will look like when I return.

I know it will be different.

And I know that seeing those landscapes again will probably be heartbreaking.

But I also know this is not the end of its story.

When the time comes, I’ll go back.
I’ll keep photographing.
I’ll keep documenting.
I’ll keep telling the stories of this extraordinary forest.

Because loving a place isn’t only about celebrating it when it’s beautiful.

It’s also about staying with it when it’s wounded.

My heart is with everyone who loves this forest.

And with the forest itself.

« Tracé en 1963 par le Groupe Alpin Populaire, ce beau circuit a ensuite été entretenu par Grégoire Clouzeau puis, en 2014, par Hervé Béranger avec les clubs Vertical Plus et le CAF de Fontainebleau. C’est un parcours continu où alternent des passages techniques nécessitant une bonne habitude de l’adhérence avec des blocs bien athlétiques ! »

En prenant cette photo, j'ai rencontré deux personnes qui essayaient le passage. On a parlé de Fontainebleau, de nos blocs préférés, de ceux qui nous résistent encore...

C'est exactement ce que j'espérais : partager les blocs que j'aime, raconter leur histoire, découvrir de nouvelles anecdotes, rencontrer des passionnés et transmettre quelques bonnes pratiques.

Alors si vous croisez quelqu'un qui photographie un bloc sous tous les angles, il y a de grandes chances que ce soit moi. Venez discuter, j'adore découvrir vos histoires et vos blocs préférés.

🌱 Bonne pratique : restez sur les sentiers ! L’écosystème est fragile. En restant sur les chemins, chacun contribue à préserver la forêt.

"Established in 1963 by the Groupe Alpin Populaire, this circuit was later maintained by Grégoire Clouzeau and, in 2014, by Hervé Béranger with the Vertical Plus club and the CAF of Fontainebleau. It combines technical friction climbing with more athletic boulders."

While taking this photo, I met two people working the problem. We talked about Fontainebleau, our favorite boulders, and the ones that still shut us down...

That's exactly what I hoped for: sharing the boulders I love, telling their stories, discovering new anecdotes, meeting passionate climbers, and promoting simple ways to protect this unique forest.

So if you ever spot someone photographing a boulder from every angle, it's probably me. Come say hi—I'd love to hear your stories and favorite boulders.

Après le Pilier Légendaire de l’Éléphant, place à un autre pilier légendaire de la forêt !

Même nom, autre ambiance.

À Franchard Isatis, Le Pilier Légendaire propose un style bien différent : une ligne plus compacte, plus à doigts, avec de jolies réglettes et une escalade précise comme Bleau sait si bien en offrir.

Moins aérien que son cousin de l’Éléphant, mais tout aussi marquant à sa manière. Un bloc esthétique, exigeant, et clairement à ajouter sur la liste si vous aimez claquer une belle arquée.

After the Pilier Légendaire at Éléphant, here comes another legendary pillar of the forest!

Same name, different vibe.

At Franchard Isatis, Le Pilier Légendaire offers a very different style: a more compact, finger-intensive line, with beautiful small edges and the kind of precise climbing Bleau does so well.

Less airy than its Éléphant cousin, but just as memorable in its own way. An aesthetic, demanding problem, and definitely one to add to the list if you enjoy pulling hard on a good crimp.

Parfois, il ne faut pas chercher trop loin pour trouver un nom de bloc.

C’est une proue.
Elle est belle.
Donc c’est La Belle Proue !

Simple, efficace, et parfaitement trouvé.

Située à Franchard Raymond, cette ligne en 6C porte très bien son nom : une forme évidente, esthétique, presque sculptée pour être grimpée.

Petit focus bonne pratique : emprunter les sentiers existants 🌱
À Bleau, rester sur les sentiers, c’est aussi protéger l’habitat naturel de la faune et de la flore. En évitant de couper à travers une partie plus sauvage, on limite l’érosion, on préserve les sols fragiles et on impacte le moins possible ce terrain de jeu incroyable qui nous est offert.

Calamity Jane, c’est un peu la petite sœur de la Dame Jouanne de Larchant : un très gros rocher, haut, posé là comme un repère, et qui a d’ailleurs hérité de ce surnom de Dame Jouanne d’Avon.

Le nom Calamity Jane lui va bien aussi : une ligne avec du caractère, un côté un peu far west, où il faut avancer sans trop trembler. Pas de grand numéro, pas de gros dévers, mais une dalle franche, exposée, qui demande de l’équilibre, de la précision, des pieds et du sang-froid.

Un bloc majeur du Rocher d’Avon, pour celles et ceux qui aiment cet art très bleausard : grimper en dalle, peu de prises, beaucoup de finesse, et cette drôle de discussion intérieure qui commence quand le sol s’éloigne doucement.

Calamity Jane feels like the little sister of Larchant’s Dame Jouanne: a very large, high boulder standing there like a landmark — and in fact, it is often nicknamed the Dame Jouanne of Avon.

The name Calamity Jane suits it too: a line with character, a slight far west feeling, where you have to keep moving without giving too much away to fear. No big show, no steep climbing, but a clean, exposed slab that asks for balance, precision, footwork and composure.

A major line at Rocher d’Avon, for those who enjoy one of Bleau’s most specific arts: slab climbing, few holds, lots of finesse, and that inner dialogue that starts when the ground slowly get away.

Dernière photo de cette petite série à l’Éléphant avec La Barre Fixe, un fameux passage, noté comme 15bis du circuit bleu sur bleau.info 💙

Le bloc le plus dur du circuit potentiellement, et clairement un beau morceau à ajouter pour ceux qui se sentent déjà à l’aise dans ce bleu. Une ligne courte, physique et bien plus sérieuse que ce que la couleur du circuit pourrait laisser penser !
Un vrai classique de l’Éléphant, et une bonne manière de découvrir le côté un peu plus exigeant des vieux circuits de Bleau 🙌

Last photo from this little Éléphant series with La Barre Fixe, a famous line noted as part of the blue circuit on bleau.info 💙

Potentially the hardest problem on the circuit, and definitely a great extra challenge for climbers who already feel comfortable on this blue circuit. A short, powerful line that feels much harder than the circuit color might suggest !

A true Éléphant classic, and a perfect way to experience the more demanding side of old Bleau circuits 🙌
