The Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett was founded in 1906 by James Gordon Bennett Jr. with one clear idea: all teams start under identical conditions and only skill, endurance and decision making define the outcome. No predefined routes, no waypoints, no external advantages. This principle still defines the race today and is why it is considered the most demanding competition in gas ballooning.
