An open letter on the situation of women’s cricket in France 21/05/2026

This week, ICC Europe posted the standings from the qualifier in Cyprus. But sometimes, in the comments, ICC - International Cricket Council Europe simply writes "France" (instead of the private association "France Cricket"). Easy to confuse. Perhaps that's the point. It's not.
Since 1 January 2026, France Cricket no longer holds government-recognised status. The French sports ministry has confirmed in writing that they are not legally authorised to designate national teams.
But who's going to notice?
Cricket is invisible in France. No French media covers it ((at least never for sporting reasons, but for scandals). The sports ministry knows absolutely nothing about this sport. The general public thinks it's either baseball or polo. And that invisibility is what makes everything possible in the bad way. There is no pressure, because there is no audience. When no one is watching, no one asks questions.
Except us. A group of women — along with the coaches and club presidents who stood with them — who built this sport in France for over a decade. If we don't say it, no one will.
Last week we published an open letter about what happened to women's cricket in France and in cricket in France in general.

Help us our voices heard. Share this post and please read our open letter 🙏

An open letter on the situation of women’s cricket in France I don’t know why Cool Runnings (Rasta Rockett in French) came back to me recently. It’s a very Hollywood film — and yet it tells a true…

To the cricket world: help us keep French women’s cricket alive.

Today, former players, coaches and club presidents who built women’s cricket and the French women’s national team over more than a decade are publishing an open letter addressed to the institutions that govern this sport. They are speaking out together, because they believe that what happened to women’s cricket in France deserves to be known and called out.

To the cricket world: help us keep French women's cricket alive.

From May 16 to 23, ten nations gather in Limassol, Cyprus, for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier A. Eight days of cricket, a qualification pathway to Australia and New Zealand 2028. European cricket is growing. That is worth celebrating.

And yet, the women who built women's cricket in France — from nothing, over more than ten years — are not currently playing. They are watching.
Most of these women started in a gymnasium around ten years ago, with plastic bats and plastic balls. Some of them ran a crowdfunding campaign to take part in a European tournament in Denmark in 2016, and won it. In 2021, they represented France for the first time at the European qualifiers in La Manga, Spain. They lost every match, but they won the hearts of everyone who watched them play. Passionate and young players with real potential, women who simply wanted to play at the highest level they could reach.
They have been punished and pushed aside for calling out unacceptable practices. And they want to be heard.
