lebron calls cap on a viral clip of mike breen saying he called out joel embiid for being late to practice. during monday’s sixers-knicks preseason broadcast, breen said he’d been told embiid came onto the floor a couple minutes after the rest of the team and lebron “let him hear it.” lebron pushed back on instagram, writing, “he ain’t been late so stop the lies.” worth noting: breen was relaying something he heard from someone before the game, not an incident he said he witnessed himself.

former atlanta hawk pero antic had some choice words for lebron james, who antic says “ruined the nba” and is “like a little girl”

“i can’t watch the nba anymore. they’re comparing him to jordan and kobe. what? he’s like a little girl, always begging for something, then he flops and nags. lebron ruined the nba in one way. that’s my opinion. oh, i’m going to chase the scoring title on purpose so that nobody ever catches me. oh, i want my son to play with me [on the same team]. that’s not how it’s supposed to go.”

lu dort says an olympic gold medal would mean more to him than winning an nba championship. on serge ibaka’s “how hungry are you?”, dort was asked, “winning the nba title or winning olympic gold?” he replied, “i’d say winning a gold medal because canada gave my family a great opportunity to have a better life.”

dort was born in montreal after his parents moved from haiti to canada in their early 20s. his father drove a taxi and his mother worked making clothes. growing up in montréal-nord, basketball helped him stay out of trouble and eventually became his path to the nba.

joel embiid is reportedly down to his rookie year weight (he was listed at 250 lbs when he was drafted): “i’ve been hearing joel embiid’s getting to the gym early and he’s down to his rookie weight. this is a new joel. everybody’s trying to kind of earn lebron’s approval and respect. i think there’s an interesting quality to this now in philly. i saw this here in los angeles in 2020, when anthony davis and lebron james first got together for that full season, they won a championship. anthony davis was like trying to impress lebron. like, he played every game. there was a tide lift amongst the stars too, with the lebron james effect. that’s what i’ve been hearing out of philly so far is this sort of lebron is one of the greatest of all time, if not the greatest, and everybody kind of wants his approval” - ramona shelburne, espn

karl-anthony towns and the knicks are reportedly not close on a contract extension. the knicks have offered $200m over 4 years, while towns is eligible for as much as $276m over 4 years. the knicks’ offer averages $50m per year, less than the $57.1m towns is making this season (he also holds a $61m player option for next season)

towns says he’s willing to work with the knicks to help keep the team together, but still wants to feel properly valued: “simply put, i want to do something to keep the team together and can work with the knicks and also values me. and none of those things are close to happening.” asked about getting a deal done before the season, towns said: “it don’t look good.”

how much should KAT get?
