Sakifo Music Festival in Reunion Island has a special place in my heart. We (Tumi and the Volume) got “discovered” here playing at the free stage. It gave me an launchpad into the European touring circuit and introduced me to some collaborators I hold dear til this day. On behalf of every ( South African) artist that has had the pleasure of performing here I’d like to wish Sakifo Festival a happy 20th anniversary and my prayers for its successful continuation. Had a blast performing there with my different interactions of the years. To more years. “Na in zour i apèl demin.”

The Caine Prize for African Writing has announced its panel of Judges for 2024. Award-winning Nigerian author and 2024 Caine Prize shortlist, Chika Unigwe will chair the panel and will be joined by Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu, an award winning writer, scholar and filmmaker; Julianknxx, a Sierra Leonean poet, artist and filmmaker; Tumi Molekane aka Stogie T, a South African Hip-Hop artist; and Ayesha Harruna-Attah, a Ghanian novelist.

Entries to the Prize close at midnight on 19th April 2024. The five shortlisted stories and their authors will be announced in mid-July; the winner will be announced at an award ceremony in September.

“I am deeply honored to be a part of the judging panel for the Caine prize for African writing. The short story bares a salient likeness to musical storytelling for me; within a bounded length one is asked to find pace, rhythm, charisma, cohesive literary form, reason, conflict, resolution, or indeed subvert all these all while being wickedly compelling. It’s exciting stuff. I look forward to encountering all the enriching magic from the entries.” T
