WHY DOES SOMETHING SO NATURAL HURT SO MUCH?
For the past few months, I have found myself asking a question that I simply cannot let go of.
If menopause is a natural part of a woman's life, why do so many of us experience it as a period of such profound suffering?
Why do some women seem to move through it with relatively little difficulty, while others face years of exhaustion, anxiety, insomnia, pain, brain fog, hot flushes and a deep sense of losing themselves?
And perhaps the question that interests me most of all:
Has modern life disconnected us from the wisdom our bodies need to navigate this natural transition?
As I navigate my own journey, I have become increasingly fascinated by the possibility that menopause is not simply a hormonal event, but a whole-body, whole-life transition influenced by our physical health, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle, relationships, environment, culture and even our sense of meaning and purpose.
To celebrate the completion of my Postgraduate Certificate in Creative Writing for Well-Being, I have decided to dive deep into this subject and release my 7th book. The Fire and the Flower, an exploration of menopause through the lens of modern science, functional medicine, ancient healing traditions, Indigenous wisdom and women's lived experiences.
This book is not about rejecting medicine.
It is not about promoting a miracle cure.
And it is certainly not about blaming women for their symptoms.
It is about asking difficult questions.
It is about searching for understanding.
And ultimately, it is about helping women reclaim their knowledge, their intuition and their power.
Over the coming months, I will be sharing the research, questions, discoveries and personal reflections that emerge along the way.
So, I would love to ask you:
What has been the biggest surprise, challenge or lesson of your own menopause journey?
