SCOUTS HONOUR COMES GOOD AGAIN . Forests Brian Clough had Maurice Edwards scouting out his future stars nationwide at Abercarn Mark Hibbs has Peter Lee working his magic around the corridors of Meritor. When Tyleri Courier services next deliver to Meritor we must meet Pete's boss and insure Meritor's pay masters refuse any of his retirement plans. With the Thursday bunfight/selection meeting not going well pleas for bowlers fell on deaf ears we even lost the king of spin Sergeant Wilson(Hughes) to the first eleven to support Noah with his hair dilemma. Dads army rolled into Rougement school(minus Sergeant Wilson) to face Malpas in a delayed start due to an archery competiton, And to be played on another astro pitch this one with a lip on the edge Katy Price would taken great pride in showing off. With the first coin lost down said crevice at the second attempt we had won the toss and invited the hosts to bat (We love the thrill of the chase). There was a late replacement to the team With Rob being drafted for Dan who was going out early on the ale, Rob wasn't informed until he got into the Captain Mainwarings van no turning back now especially with those dodgy knees (allegedly). Private Godfrey(Rob) and Warden Hodges (Peter Lee) opened the bowling taking early wickets leaving Malpas 39-5 at drinks Lee finishing with figures of 3-18. drinks was an interesting interlude with Pradeep warming up in the middle for his comeback, put him on said Warden Hodges. For once Mainwaring listened to Hodges and the Meritor express fired up making the Hafodyrynys express look like Ivor the Engine. with Kye and Seb backing up at the other end Malpas had fallen for 100 Seb taking 2 great catches in the deep Kye a catch off his own bowling and the Junior Alan Knott a screamer that he still hasn't seen but can feel. Monk (Private Pike)and Peter "5 cars" Lee opened the batting Monk managed to get to 50 in under 40 balls was he off out with Dan for a beer...with the Kharade kid unable to walk (needs to leave martial arts to the experts) and 2 wickets falling soon after Kye the Ice kid joined Monk and sealed the victory with a stand of 23, Monk reaching an unbeaten 57. Celebrations still continuing into Sunday when young Judah was seen leaving a local restaurant in Blackwood this afternoon waving with pride as the skipper sounded the horn... HALF TERM REPORT After last season where we faced defeat after defeat and only getting past 100 3 times with no victories this season has already surpassed such atrocities 2 players getting past 100 and 4 wins out of a possible 7 is huge step forward we find ourselves in 3rd place and the team who currently lead the league we have actually beaten on there own patch. we are unbeaten on astro pitches can the council make a decent one for us? we currently have the top 3 wicket takers in the league the keeper with the most dismissals(he must be good) and Suhas in 8th with the batting. A long way to go but the kids backed up with Dads Army who knows what we can achieve lets keep the dream alive when we head to Monmouth next week. A few of Dads Army were missing this week the seconds things look good when all in together. Corporal Jones (Mel) vacation in Majorca Private Frazier (Jeff) firsts duty private Walker (Farky) firsts duty .

WINNING STREAK COMES TO A CRUMBLIN END AGAINST LOCAL RIVALS With numerous players away on international duty 6 changes were made to the line up to face local rivals Crumlin. With the weather having another hissy fit Friday night the prepared pitch undergoing its 5th game of the season was always going to play a part. With both skippers strolling to the middle it was agreed to delay the toss and go for 30 overs later down the line, Winning the toss the obvious decision was to let the visitors have bat and see if there were any demons in the pitch still. With Rob Harrison informing the skipper an hour before the game that he was unfit to bowl due to bad knee(again) the decision was made to give him the new ball and say you got 2 knees get on with it. With Harvey Parsons assuming his regular position of opening the bowling alongside him. Harvey was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-27 in his 6 overs bowling the opener and 2 other wickets via the safe hands of Junior Ben Foakes behind the stumps and the exceptional Richard Boon taking his first catch in senior cricket. Crumlin posted a respectable 140-3. Having listened to Monk and Angelo for 40 overs in the field it was time for tea with 2 paracetamol for desert Belly's full Hopkins and Williams went out to bat with the skippers word take your time and have a look at it and didn't they just Hopkins out for 3 in a rush to serve pints in the local rugby club(fine for leaving early) and Williams trying to relive Sunil Gavaskars innings in the 1975 Prudential World cup(If you don't know look it up). With Monk holding anchor and the Kharade kid still celebrating last weeks heroics in the "Golf n stuff" restaurant there was a new number 3 with a David Gower perm and a Chris Tavare tash he opted for the Tavare style of batting a full 55 minutes for his 5. Then came the Ice Kid Kye Parsons putting on a stand of 50 with Monk to give renewed hope. The final partnership between Harvey and young Hibbs ended on the last ball with young Marv getting run out after a 44 yard sprint, With the final ball going into the keepers hands Marv decided upon a quick single which landed up with him standing next to the skipper shaking hands and then running back to his end losing the foot race to the stumps to the pensioner keeper. falling short with a final total 120-6 on what was a tough track to play and probably the slowest outfield I can remember at the Welfare. There was some serious competition for Duck of the day Monk constantly talking in the field Angelo Not putting his pads when told by me and Harvey And we wont mention the dropped dolly. But its a joint award this week Harvey and Rob, Harvey's run out and Robs I can't bowl today but the joint mess they made of putting the discs out Rob: "These seem a long way don't they" as he stands 2 yards from the river let me have a look at the measuring tape Rob..... WTF they only had it set at 50 metres not 30 metres and setting them out from one set of stumps, one way to get 4 in a circle I suppose..... There's a meeting with HR in the morning to discuss unauthorised absences from Lanzarote London to Majorca not forgetting the golf n stuff restaurant the fines committee will be on overtime πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ . Massive positive the young guns getting game time together in the 2nds and together regularly and securing those 2,4 and 6 in the batting order as well as bowling plus the other young guns Judah and Max coming through and gaining invaluable experience all fielding well too. But to hear the words of one of the young guns in the changing room yesterday saying how he loves it playing with the seconds and its a great laugh and fun is awesome and shows us old folk we must be doing something right I did say it will pay off long term long may it continue.

A NEW JANITOR IS CREATED AS THE KHARADE KID GOES FULL WAX ON WAX OFF IN 74 BALL 130 RUN ASSAULT

The 2nds managed a third consecutive victory again something not seen since June 2023 against 6th placed Penarth at St Cyres School ground, Losing the toss the host captain elected to bowl putting us in on another artificial astro track this one treated well with fertiliser or better known as bird s**t. The evergreen Paul Farkas and Peter "5 cars" Lee opened the batting toiling for 10 overs putting on 26 for the 1st wicket, Enter the dragon or should I say the Kharade kid. The wild Hungarian Farkas met his new partner and said have look at it kid. Su looked at it alright as the first ball sailed over the boundary for a huge six towards the athletics track and replied "Balance learn balance balance good Kharade good Everthing good" With the Kharade kid in full swing carnage ensued and the next 11 overs saw 118 runs added to the total. Farkas had gone for a quality 35 Kharade had gone to 50 in 25 balls. Ben Skuse in the 2nds (to accommodate clubber Hopkins night on the beer apparently wearing joop has he been in his fathers wardrobe?) he played his role backing up the carnage followed by the young Harvey Parsons who made a superb 28 not out. Suhas got to his maiden century in 48 balls finishing with 130 off 74 and the team score 237 for 6 off 40 but was it going to be enough.
The next 40 overs was to show effort and commitment from every player that a captain can only dream of, Every player stood to man and played a part, Penarth had raced to 52 in 5 overs despite the tight bowling of the ever injured Rob Harrison 8 overs for 27 but up stepped young Harvey with some flight and guile to beat the bat and with superb glove work by the keeper stumping the opener like a junior Jack Russell things got underway, Shortly followed by a superb throw in from the Kharade kid the keepers safe glovework led to a run out to boost the cause. At drinks Penarth had got to 105-3 soon to be 110-4 before the wicket keeper was joined by the the opening bowler who decided to make up for his economy rate with the ball with his bat. With 5 overs to go and only 25 needed the statement was made "its only 5 an over its easy on here now the pressures on you" Angelo got involved I lost my voice telling him to shut up and everyone else was now fired up. Remember the words of the Mr Miyagi "Man who catch fly with chopsticks accomplish anything". with the original Janitor Hughes bowled out it was crunch time , Mr Miyagi had Daniel Russo Mr Hibbs has Kye Parsons cometh the hour cometh the Ice kid, His first ball was top edged caught by the keeper and wicket number 5 down whilst the other a more grumpy Janitor called Scouse was stoking the school boilers down the other end. By the final over the hosts needed 9 runs to win with a dot ball and a single it was 8 from 4 next ball was hit high and long and caught on the boundary. 8 from 3 with a single it was 7 from 2 the next ball was a calamity of errors with run outs missed at both ends 2 runs a verbal roasting from the janitor and 5 from the last ball required young Scouse bowled the ball the batter swung for all he was worth edged it behind to safe hands of the keeper wicket number 9 and a victory by 4 runs. A superb performance in the field by the 2nds not seen in a lifetime, catches being held all around the field Farkas, Suhas and Harvey, Angelo fielding in close as if his life depended on it stopping everything giving no singles and the Scouse Janitor running in the from the boundary to field the legside glances that the keeper decided to have a cuppa and watch thinking they were going further than they did. the Verve Cliqo of champagne award could go to any number of players Kye Parsons for his match changing wicket Jeff Scouse for his 4 wickets in 11 balls, the wonderful keeper for his 2 catches a stumping and run out. But the panel awarded it to Suhas for his 130 his boundary catch and throw leading to the run out. Every person stood to be counted and for 5 wickets to fall in the last 3.5 overs it was Abercarn who held up under pressure Still in 4th place and next week we entertain our old friends Crumlin at the Welfare UPTHECARN
