Operating as usual

Well what a game of cricket we had on Saturday! We edge past Usk CC 3rd XI by one wicket to get our first win of the season! Everyone from both sides played their part in a brilliant encounter. Done so in great spirit!

Usk CC won the toss and chose to bat. After a gentle start, Usk soon started hitting some boundaries through Ryan Price (17) and Alan Burkitt (21).
The run rate and wickets were steady and the introduction of Damien Harvey (65) helped the home side gain a competitive total through some big hitting. The crucial wicket of Harvey from Jay Taylor (2-36) kept the total below 200. The home side eventually finished 182 all out, setting Cynon Valley 183 for victory.

Opening batsmen John Marczak and Tristan Smith (14) settled in the early overs, sharing a few boundaries against some tricky spin bowling. John Marczak stuck around for around 30 overs, eventually being stumped for 54. A mini partnership between him and big hitting from Ieuan Hames put Cynon Valley in a favourable position. However, with both falling in the space of a few overs, Cynon Valley’s tail needed to waggle to have any chance of getting a win.
Debutant Taylor Richards hit a handy 12, and Ashley Phillips-Green (36*) boundaries put Cynon Valley within 30 of the target set for victory, but with only one wicket remaining!
Club legend Steve Hames stepped to the crease as the 11th and final batsman and finished the game with 17* (the most he’s scored for a while!).
The nerves were high as he and Ashley Phillips-Green knocked off the final runs needed, with little over an over to spare to claim victory!

The win sees Cynon valley earn a full 20 points. Next up we host Cardiff CC 4th XI down the Ynys on Saturday, 14th of May 🏏

Cynon Valley CC Play-Cricket, Cynon Valley CC,

Cynon Valley Wanderers began their season with a loss by four wickets, away to Dinas Powys.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, CV got off to a decent start with John Marczak and Thomas Addiscott putting on a near 50 run partnership for the first wicket.
However, CV would collapse in under 10 overs to 101 all out.

CV bowled well to try and make the game competitive. Wickets from John Marczak (3W-18R) and debutant Ashley Phillips-Green (2W-12R) got Dinas Powys to 35-4, putting pressure on the middle order to produce runs... which they did!

Dinas Powys dug in and saw off the remaining runs needed with only two further wickets falling (103/6).

Despite the disappointing result, the game was played in good spirits and as always with some humor in the field from ourselves! 🏏

We go again next week, away to Usk CC!
