4 years since my last event (various injuries and life got in the way), 6 months of public accountability, and I have completed
and I DID it! 🏁🏆
Were we the fastest? Absolutely not. Did we try our hardest? Yes! Was it a massive personal victory? 100%.
If you’ve been following along here, you know I’ve spent the last 6 months sharing my journey back into exercise after a 4-year struggle. As a physiotherapist, helping others heal is second nature but applying that patience to my own body was a whole different challenge.
Looking back, a few key pieces finally made the puzzle click:
💪 Prioritising Strength: Over the last year, I shifted my focus to strength training. Looking back, I probably could have done a bit more race-specific conditioning, but building a robust foundation was the magic bullet for staying injury-free.
🩺 Addressing the Whole Picture: Last October I started on HRT. While it’s hard to pinpoint exactly how much to attribute to a single factor, I can’t help but wonder how much restoring that hormonal balance played a role in my recovery, resilience, and energy levels. (Women's health is complex, and sometimes the missing link isn't just in the rehab room!).
🏋️♀️ Building the Right Team: A huge shoutout to .co.uk who helped get me started on this path and kept me moving in the right direction.
⏰ My training crew also brought much needed support and accountability, thanks couldn't have done it without you!
Crossing that finish line wasn't about setting records; it was proof that my body is capable again.
To anyone currently trapped in the injury loop: keep going, advocate for your health, and don't be afraid to adjust the plan. Rehab isn't linear, but the finish line is worth it.
Here’s to the next chapter.

If we had a pound for every time we heard these said during first appointments, we'd be relaxing in the sunshine somewhere!
Our Physio team always aim to put you at ease, nothing is too embarrassing for us.
Don't let nerves put you off booking an appointment.
'The best time to start was 6 months ago, the second best time to start is now'
This is our current training mantra, two weeks out from the gauntlet, as we wish we had worked to our recent training intensity earlier!
As I prioritise recovery from a flare up of my asthma, how do you manage training when something unexpected gets in the way?
Read/watch this before your child's first session back ⚽️🏈🏑🩰
Going from a more relaxed summer straight back into full intensity training can be a recipe for injury in young athletes.
As MSK Physios we see a spike in conditions such growth plate irritation, shin splints or muscle strains every September.
Here are 3 quick Physio tips to keep them in sport and out of the clinic this term.
1. Gradually build up the training loads so they're not going from 0-100 in week 1
2. Make sure they are warming up and cooling down effectively
3. Growing bodies need sufficient sleep and fuel to support good recovery & avoid overuse injuries before they start.
If you have a child or teen that requires individualised advice or an early season check up, drop us a DM or book an appointment via our website.
