Aberdeen Hockey Club

It was the ladies turn later on in the afternoon, as they played their first game since promotion to Division 1 with a cracking game of hockey against Bon Accord MBC 1s at Rubislaw.

It was a swift reminder for many of the experienced players of the higher level, and BAMBC were quick to re-introduce them to it! A spait of attacks in the first quarter left the AHC ladies in a spin and 3 goals were conceded in quick succession. By the second quarter, the ladies readjusted their positions and were able to make their own mark with a sneaky touch from Daniela into the back of the net! Third quarter brought some great plays from both teams but 2 more scores were added for the whites. Final quarter saw both teams winding down, Nic clawed back another score before the last whistle.

Captain Emily was very positive about the game “It was a really solid effort for our first match of the season in a new division. The fact that we managed to get two goals against a very strong Bon Accord team shows how well we are playing as a team! We have some things to work on going forward but I definitely see some wins in our future!”

Our men’s 1sts team met with Moray HC, for the first game of the new season at ASV early this afternoon. Men’s 1s captain Jack was very pleased with the results and the team effort:

“Excellent opener to the season from the 1s. From going 1-0 down the lads showed great courage and hard work to come back and win.

The last quarter was very hard work going down to 10 players with injury’s but eventually we pulled through. A new look side with several regulars missing I could not be prouder of the gents today.

Special mention to Ben McK for man of the match performance, tireless work rate all game!”

A fine night in Tynecastle catching up with the lovely North players, sharing stories with the Highland crew and bumping into the stunning Hannah Moore, who was nominated for her fabulous work in Moray Hockey Club 👏. AHC Belgium trip report 🇧🇪 (PG version)

Our tour team were super excited for this trip so everyone made sure to pack their passport the night before👀

Rocked up to the hotel that Emily had booked and there immediately some questions as in the foyer they had two swings with the words “swingers welcome” on the wall, with the lack of pampas grass we assumed we were safe. Craig must have looked ahead of time and decided against sharing a room with Nyall and Glenn. A drink before dinner at the hotel got half the team very happy as they were no measures and heavy hands. An almost lost wallet, dinner and then drinks concluded the night.

World cup day and Emily was not missing a second, marching on to catch the bus leaving any stragglers behind thankfully we all made it there together in the end. There was a brilliant atmosphere at the FIH Hockey World Cup throughout the day with 3 incredible games watched, the stand out one being Malaysia Vs Ireland as not only did we have one of each nation on our own team but a 7-4 score kept everyone entertained.

Our new friends hosted an amazing day with their inclusive 🏳️‍🌈 tournament 🏳️‍🌈 in Ixelles. A full on unforgettable day had to be followed up by an unforgettable night in Brussels🎤 with shakes🕺🏼, breaks 💥 and “for goodness sakes”🫣 AHC became well acquainted with the local hot spots!

A short tourist trip around the town before our departure, with a shaky e-bike and an arty tram tour gave a few last glimpses of the brilliant Belgium before we waved goodbye to a lovely city. Seatbelts were a requirement in the taxi and their driving was like something out of fast and furious. After her bar antics Chloe had her weapon confiscated (a mini kids stick) in the airport probably now on a watchlist for entering Belgium.

Overall the trip can be summed up in one word
Class!!!

We were very fortunate to make use of the ASV pitch tonight for a pre-season taster, big thanks to Scott & Bill for making the arrangements.

A fine night to welcome many new faces and introduce them to a new club - and for some…a new sport 🏑
