Glentanar Juniors FC v Stoneywood Parkvale FC

We started the game brightly, applying early pressure to the SWP back line and not allowing them to settle into the game. A well-timed through ball from Aaron Blair found Ewan Milne in behind the defence, and one-on-one with the SWP goalkeeper, he calmly slotted the ball home to put us 1-0 up after 15 minutes.
Ten minutes later, a direct pass from the SWP midfielder found their attacker on the wrong side of Robbo. A tangle of legs saw the attacker go to ground, and the referee pointed to the spot. The penalty taker sent Logan the wrong way to bring SWP level at 1-1.

We continued to apply high pressure, forcing SWP into playing the long ball and turning over possession. We restored our lead when Ross chased a ball down the right channel and managed to deliver a cross to the back post. An onrushing Albie Collin got a knee to the ball and guided it past the SWP goalkeeper for his first goal on his first start for the Glens. 2-1.

We made a couple of changes at half-time, with Bradley being replaced by Ali after picking up an early booking, while Jedd came on for Albie, who had picked up a knock just before the break.

The second half was very stop-start, with the referee awarding a number of fouls which made it difficult for either team to build any real momentum.

SWP continued to play the longer ball and began to put our back line under increased pressure. We continued to defend well until, unfortunately, another penalty was awarded in similar fashion. The SWP attacker again found himself on the wrong side of our defender, and another tangle of legs resulted in the referee pointing to the spot. SWP converted to make it 2-2.

The lads reacted well and created a couple of good opportunities. Oli fired over from inside the box, while Simmers almost added his third of the season after getting on the end of an Aaron set piece. Unfortunately, the ball was just too far in front of him, and he could only force it over the bar.

Our best chance to win the game came when Godwin made his way into the box and rounded the goalkeeper. However, he couldn’t quite get the ball out of his feet, allowing the keeper to recover and smother the ball.

SWP defended well during the final few minutes, throwing bodies in front of the ball while continuing to look a threat on the counter-attack. With neither team able to find the clinical finish, the game ended 2-2.

Overall, it was an entertaining game with plenty of end-to-end action, with both teams going in search of all three points. It’s disappointing not to come away with the win after taking the lead twice, but credit to a well-organised SWP side who had not conceded a league goal prior to today.

Glentanar Juniors FC are delighted to confirm the loan signing of Albie Collin from Stonehaven Football Club 🤝🦌

With the clock ticking towards today’s 5pm Scottish transfer deadline, negotiations went right to the wire.

Phones were ringing. Documents were flying about. COMET was being refreshed. Sources were stationed outside Woodside Sports Complex. At one stage, there were even rumours of a helicopter. 🚁

Thankfully, the paperwork was completed and Albie is officially a Glen. ✍️

A pacey, left-sided full-back with an eye for goal, Albie gives us another exciting option down the left and we’re delighted to get him in.

And while we’re doing our best Sky Sports impression, another important addition to the squad is Aiden “Robbo” Robertson, who joined the Glens ahead of deadline-day madness. 🟡🔵

Robbo is exactly the type of player we’re looking to bring to the club, positive, fully committed and versatile, giving us options on the right-hand side.

He showed exactly what he’s about on his debut last weekend, stepping up under pressure and calmly converting his penalty in the shootout. 💪⚽️

For avoidance of doubt, absolutely none of today’s deadline-day panic was necessary… our transfer window doesn’t actually close until March. We just wanted to feel involved. 😂
