It was a very warm afternoon on Tuesday (7th) when the Abergavenny Ladies welcomed Beechwood Ladies to Avenue Road for a game in the South Wales & Monmouthshire Ladies League. It was agreed that due to the high temperatures only 15 ends would be played.
On the rink of Mary Evans, Mary Vale, Lesley Radley and Sue Williams they were playing against 3 Beechwood Ladies with the Abergavenny second bowling unopposed. Beechwood won the first end with a single but then Abergavenny won the next 11 ends to go 24-1 ahead. Beechwood scored another single on the 13th end and a 2 on the last end to make the final rink score Abergavenny 25. Beechwood 4.
The rink of Sue Pritchard, Sue Jewell, Val Jones and Kath Indge won the first 3 ends before conceding a single on the 4th to lead 7-1. The Beechwood Ladies found it difficult to get any more than the odd single so by the 12th end it was 15-4 to Abergavenny. The last 3 ends gave each side a 2 and Abergavenny got a single on the last end to make the final rink score Abergavenny 18. Beechwood 6. The final match score was Abergavenny 43. Beechwood 10.

On Friday the Mixed Team were playing Beaufort in the South Wales Mixed League at Avenue Road, again it was a hot afternoon so plenty of drinks breaks and a match of 15 ends was the order of the day.
On the rink of Mike Hayward, Denis McDaid, Mary Vale and Mandy Harris the visitors got off to a better start leading 7-3 after 5 ends. It was a close middle 5 ends with only singles being scored so at 10 ends it was 9-6 to Beaufort. The final 5 ends went to Beaufort with the final rink score being Abergavenny 7. Beaufort 15.
Abergavenny won the first 2 ends on the rink of Mary Evans, Tom Cobb, Cath Badham and Stephen Williams but then lost the next 8 so at the 10th end it was 12-3 to Beaufort. Over the last 5 ends Beaufort kept control and the final rink score was Abergavenny 8. Beaufort 18.
On the rink of Peter Steed, Sue Jewell, Val Jones and Andy Brown it was a close game with the score at 4 ends at 4-4. Beaufort scored 6 on the 5th end and then lost the next 4 ends to make the score 11-10 to Abergavenny after 9 ends. Beaufort went into a 14-11 lead on the 11th only to be caught again on the next end, on the 14th end it was all square at 15-15 and Beaufort won the last end with a single to make the final rink score Abergavenny 15. Beaufort 16. The final match score was Abergavenny 30. Beaufort 49.
The Ladies had a Mary Wardle League game away at Chepstow on Saturday.
The rink of Mary Evans, Sue Pritchard, Lesley Radley and Mandy Harris didn't have a good start as they lost the first 8 ends to go 26-0 behind. They picked up 7 shots over the next 3 ends, then a single on the 13th and a 2 on the 16th followed by a 3 on the 17th. The final match score was Abergavenny 13. Chepstow 31.

On Tuesday 30th the Ladies went to St Julian's to play a game in the South Wales and Monmouthshire Ladies League.
On the rink of Jenni MacGregor, Sue Jewell, Val Jones and Kath Indge the first 3 ends were won by St Julian's to give them a 4 shot lead. Abergavenny reduced the deficit to 2 shots by the 9th end but then conceded a 4 on the 11th to go 7 shots behind at 11-4. Over the last 4 ends Abergavenny got a couple of shots back to make the final rink score Abergavenny 8. St Julian's 13.
Over on the rink of Mary Evans, Diane Bevan, Mary Vale and Lesley Radley a good start saw them leading on the 5th end by 6 shots to 4. St Julian's scored 3 on the 6th end to take the lead but then Abergavenny won the next 4 ends amassing 14 shots in the process to lead on the 10th end by 20 shots to 7. St Julian's got a couple back on the 11th before conceding a 6 on the 12th end and a 2 on the 13th. St Julian's won the last 2 ends scoring 2 shots on each of them. The final rink score was Abergavenny 28. St Julian's 13. The final match score was Abergavenny 36. St Julian's 26. Abergavenny 6 points and St Julian's 2 points.
On Friday the Mixed Team were in action against Barry Romilly at Avenue Road in the South Wales Mixed League.
On the rink of Jenni MacGregor, Tom Cobb, Val Jones and Lesley Radley it was neck and neck for the first 7 ends when the score was 5 all. Abergavenny then got a narrow lead for 5 ends before being caught again on the 13th end at 9-9. Romilly scored 1 on the penultimate end and then really sealed the rink win by scoring a 6 on the last end to make the final rink score Abergavenny 9. Barry Romilly 16.
The rink of Peter Steed, Sue Jewell, Gordon King and Mike Hayward got off to a flying start scoring 6 shots on the first end and leading 8-2 on the 4th. It was the turn of Romilly to score heavily and they did so with a 5 on the 5th end and then drew level at 8-8 on the 6th. Abergavenny built a lead of 6 shots before conceding 8 shots over the 10th and 11th ends to put Romilly in the lead for the first time at 16-14. Abergavenny fought back to be 1 shot ahead on the 14th end before Romilly scored 2 on the last end to make the final rink score Abergavenny 18. Barry Romilly 19.
The rink of John MacGregor, Mary Evans, Mandy Harris and Denis McDaid never really got into the game and were 16-2 down after 7 ends. Unfortunately it just wasn't their day as Romilly romped away to record a final rink score of Abergavenny 6. Barry Romilly 23.

The Ladies were at Beechwood on Saturday playing in the one rink Mary Wardle League.
The rink consisted of Jenni MacGregor, Mary Evans, Lesley Radley and Kath Indge who were 3-5 behind after 5 ends but scored a 6 on the 6th end to take the lead. They lost the next 3 ends and the score was level at the 9th end, after trading shots on the next 2 ends Beechwood won 4 consecutive ends to go 15-10 ahead, a good recovery from Abergavenny saw them just 2 shots behind going into the last end at 15-17, a really good final end from Abergavenny earned them 5 shots and the match win with the final score of Abergavenny 20. Beechwood 17.
The GBL team were at Ynysddu on Saturday. The rink of John Vale, Chris Perry, Cath Badham and Gerald Parry drew 19-19. Richard Richards, Mary Vale, Andrew Brown and Ron Harris lost by 3 shots and Mike Hayward, Ian McCuish, Roger Griffiths and Sue Williams lost by 14 shots. The final match score was Abergavenny 42. Ynysddu 59. 1 point to Abergavenny.
The MBA team were at home to Newport Athletic for their Division 4 match.
On the rink of Rob Poynter, Steve File, Gordon King and Mike McGonagall it was very tight for the first 10 ends with both sides matching each other. Abergavenny got a small advantage on the 11th end by scoring 3 but they were overtaken on the 14th end when Newport scored 3 to go in front by 11 shots to 10. The 16th end proved to be the turning point as Newport Athletic had a very good end and scored 5 from which Abergavenny never recovered and the final rink score was Abergavenny 12. Newport Athletic 20.
The rink of Mike Collins, Fred Mutimer, Stephen Williams and Paul Jones were up against some tough opposition and fell behind early on in the game. They were 6-3 down after 7 ends but managed to keep the deficit at 3 on the 13th end, Newport then stretched ahead by winning the next 7 ends to have an unassailable lead of 25-9 going into the last end which Abergavenny won by 1 shot. The final rink score was Abergavenny 10. Newport Athletic 25.
On the rink of John MacGregor, Peter Steed, David Hill and John Woodier Abergavenny got off to a steady start leading for the first 4 ends before being caught by Newport on the 6th end. Abergavenny got back on level terms on the 10th end at 10 all before dropping a 5 followed by a 4 two ends later to go 11-19 down. Over the last 8 ends both sides scored two 4's and overall Abergavenny had the better finish but it wasn't enough and the final rink score was Abergavenny 23. Newport Athletic 28.
The rink of Jack Vale, Rob Pursey, Courtney Hemmings and Denis McDaid got off to a flying start by scoring 5 on the first end and by the 4th they led 8-2. The following 7 ends all went to Newport who took an 11-8 lead on the 11th end but Abergavenny scored another 5 followed by a 3 to retake the lead at 16-11. Newport then got a 4 to reduce the deficit to 1, by the 19th end it was 19-19, Newport won the 20th end scoring 2, on the last end and with the last bowl Abergavenny got the 2 shots they required for a 21-21 final rink score.
The final match score was Abergavenny 66. Newport Athletic 94.

After a quieter week it was back to normal on Saturday.
The Ladies played Garndiffaith in the one rink Mary Wardle League at Avenue Road, the rink was skipped by Jenni MacGregor with Mary Evans, Kath Indge and Lesley Radley completing the team. After scoring 3 shots on the first end things didn't go their way, so after losing the next 5 ends they were 7-3 down. By the 12th end Garndiffaith had extended their lead to 15-6, ends 14 & 15 saw Abergavenny score a 4 & 2 to make the score 16-12 but Garndiffaith finished well scoring 10 shots over the last 3 ends to make the final match score Abergavenny 12. Garndiffaith 26.
Also on Saturday at Avenue Road the GBL team were taking on Abercarn.
On the rink of Richard Richards, Mandy Harris, Ian Turner and Ron Harris it was a steady start with neither team taking the initiative for the first 6 ends with the score at 4-4. Abergavenny then went ahead and at the 13th end were leading by 11 shots to 8. Abercarn scored a 5 on the 14th end to take the lead and extend it to win the rink with a final rink score of Abergavenny 14. Abercarn 23.
On the rink of John Vale, Sue Jewell, Martin Love and Chris Perry the first 4 ends went to Abercarn to give them a 7 shot lead. The next 7 ends were pretty even with the score on the 14th being 12-6 to Abercarn. The last 7 ends were emphatically Abergavenny's who won them all to win the rink with a final score of Abergavenny 17. Abercarn 12.
On the rink of first time skip Mike Hayward, Ian McCuish, Andy Brown and Sue Williams a good start saw them in by 6-1 after 7 ends. Abercarn tried to make a comeback so at the 14th end it was 10-7 to Abergavenny, the last 7 ends went in favour of Abergavenny with Abercarn only scoring 2 on the 16th and Abergavenny winning the last 5 ends to make the final rink score Abergavenny 19. Abercarn 9.

The MBA team went to Machen for their League game.
On the rink of Jack Vale, John MacGregor, Courtney Hemmings and Denis McDaid an excellent start saw them leading by 8-1 at the 7th end. Machen had narrowed the lead to 4 shots on the 14th end at 12-8 but Abergavenny kept up the momentum and the final rink score was Abergavenny 19. Machen 12.
On the rink of Peter Steed, Dave Hill, Paul Jones and John Woodier the Abergavenny men won 2 of the first 8 ends to go 10-5 behind. By the 12th end they had drawn level at 12 all but by losing the next 4 ends they went 20-12 behind. A spirited final 5 ends saw Abergavenny miss out and lose the rink with the final score being Abergavenny 20. Machen 21.
On the rink of Rob Poynter, Steve File, Gordon King and Mike McGonagall the first 7 ends went in favour of Machen who had a lead of 8 shots to 4. Abergavenny managed to level the score on the 16th end at 11-11 but Machen had a good finish and the final rink score was Abergavenny 13. Machen 18.
On the rink of Mike Collins, Fred Mutimer, Steve Williams and Tom Cobb a good start from Machen gave them a 6-1 lead after 6 ends. The next 4 ends turned it all around for Abergavenny as they won them and in the process scored 12 shots to go into a 13-6 lead, the next 2 ends went to Machen who scored 2 on each of them. The next 7 ends were all Abergavenny's and they held a 27-10 lead before Machen won the last 2 ends to make the final rink score Abergavenny 27. Machen 14.

The Abergavenny Mixed team went to Llanbradach on Friday for a game in the South Wales Mixed League.
On the rink of John MacGregor, Sue Jewell, Gordon King and Mary Vale had an excellent start by winning the first 5 ends to get a 7 shot advantage. Llanbradach came back through and scored 5 on the 9th end to be just 2 behind at 9-7. Abergavenny scored a 3 on the 11th end to go 12-8 ahead but then lost the next 5 ends to fall behind 15-12. Abergavenny won the last 2 ends but only scoring singles which made the final rink score Abergavenny 14. Llanbradach 15.
The rink of Mary Evans, Mike Hayward, Dawn Kedward and Denis McDaid kept up with Llanbradach for the first 6 ends but then Llanbradach pulled away and on the 13th end were leading 19-7. Abergavenny won the last 5 ends but couldn't catch Llanbradach with the final rink score Abergavenny 14. Llanbradach 19.
On the rink of Peter Steed, Jenni MacGregor, Gerald Parry and Lesley Radley could of had a better start as they went 10-2 down after 8 ends, but over the following 3 ends Abergavenny levelled the score at 10-10. With both sides scoring a single and a 4 it was level again on the 15th end, Llanbradach won the next 2 to take an 18-15 lead into the last end but Abergavenny came out on top by scoring a 4 and making the final rink score Abergavenny 19. Llanbradach 18.

On Saturday the Ladies had a game against Islwyn Ladies in the Mary Wardle League.
Jenni MacGregor, Sue Pritchard, Lesley Radley and Mary Evans got off to a steady start winning the first 3 ends but the Islwyn Ladies caught up with them on the 8th end with the score at 5-5. Abergavenny then went ahead by scoring a couple of 4's and a single to take a 14-7 lead on the 12th end. Of the 6 final ends 4 of them went to the Islwyn Ladies but each side scored 5 shots each to make the final match score Abergavenny 19. Islwyn Ladies 12.
The GBL team were also in action at Avenue Road playing against Blaina.
The rink of Richard Richards, Mike Hayward, Charles Harper and Paul Jones were playing against only 3 Blaina players. There was never more than 3 shots between the teams all throughout the game which finished with the score of 16-13 to Blaina but after the 25% deduction for only fielding 3 players the final rink score was Abergavenny 13. Blaina 12.
On the rink of Dave Cooper, Ian McCuish, Chris Perry and Tom Cobb it was a slow start from the Abergavenny men losing by 9-2 at the 7th end, this was corrected by the 11th end when they drew level at 10 all. By the 16th end Abergavenny were leading by 15-11 and they held on to win with the final rink score of Abergavenny 16. Blaina 13.
The rink of Fred Mutimer, Denis McDaid, Ian Turner and Ron Harris had a good start leading by 7-1 after 6 ends, the next 6 ends were shared on shots so it was 12-6 at 12 ends. Abergavenny romped away on the last 6 ends winning 5 of them to finish with the final rink score of Abergavenny 21. Blaina 7.

The GBL team were at Chepstow on Sunday to round off a busy weekend.
On the rink of Dave Cooper, Ian McCuish, Andy and and Gerald Parry the home team really didn't give the Abergavenny men any chance and prevented them from scoring apart from on 3 ends, subsequently the final rink score was Abergavenny 4. Chepstow 34.
The rink of Mike McGonagall, Tom Cobb, Martin Love and Ron Harris were restricted to scoring singles on just 8 ends as they lost on the rink with the final rink score of Abergavenny 8. Chepstow 24.
On the rink of Richard Richards, Mike Hayward, Jo Campbell and Denis McDaid the Abergavenny team were in the lead for the first 8 ends before Chepstow scored a 4 on the 9th end to take a 10-8 lead. Chepstow kept the lead and the final rink score was Abergavenny 14. Chepstow 19.

On Wednesday evening we welcomed Gilwern Bowls Club to Avenue Road for an East Monmouthshire Bowling Association League game.
On rink 2 were John MacGregor, Fred Mutimer, Stephen Williams and Mike Hayward who got off to a good start by scoring 4 on the first end, however Gilwern soon took up the challenge and were level at 8-8 by the 6th end and then went ahead at 13-11 on the 12th. With some steady scoring Gilwern came through to win the rink by 21 shots to 12.
Steve File, Mike McGonagall, Ron Harris and Paul Jones were on rink 3 and struggled to get into the game due to accurate bowling from the Gilwern men, subsequently they were 15-1 down after 9 ends, the situation didn't improve very much and it was 21-3 after 16 ends. Typically Abergavenny started to score over the last 2 ends and managed to finish the game losing by the slightly more respectable score of 8-21.
On rink 4 were Peter Steed, Ian McCuish, Martin Love and Tom Cobb who won the first end and then lost the next 2 with Gilwern scoring 4 shots on each of them to take an 8-2 lead. Abergavenny levelled again on the 8th end 8 all but couldn't keep up the challenge after being level again at the 12th, Gilwern then won the next 5 ends to take a 19-11 lead and Abergavenny won the last end to make the final rink score 13-19 to Gilwern.
The Abergavenny men on rink 5 were Richard Richards, Gordon King, Denis McDaid and Courtney Hemmings who held a 6-4 lead after 6 ends but they were caught on the 12th end at 10-10. Gilwern went 1 ahead on the 13th but then Abergavenny won the next 4 ends to take a 17-11 lead into the final end on which Gilwern scored 1 shot to make it an Abergavenny win by 17 shots to 12.
The final match score was Abergavenny 50. Gilwern 73.

On Thursday afternoon it was the turn of the Ladies to welcome Croesyceillog to Avenue Road for a rearranged South Wales and Monmouthshire Ladies League game.
On the rink of Mary Evans, Diane Bevan, Sue Williams and Julia Salter Croesyceillog won the first 2 ends to take a 5 shot lead, Abergavenny clawed this back over the next 3 ends and then scored a 4 on the 6th end to take a 9-5 lead. Abergavenny then took control and by the 14th end had a 16-8 advantage. The 15th and 16th ends were shared with 1 shot each and Croesyceillog had a perfect finish scoring 4 shots on each of the last 2 ends to make the final rink score Abergavenny 17. Croesyceillog 17.
On the rink of Jenni MacGregor, Mary Vale, Val Jones and Lesley Radley the first 7 ends were close with only a shot or two between them. This changed on the 8th end when Croesyceillog scored 5 to take an 11-8 lead which they extended to 17-8 by the 13th end. Abergavenny then tried to make a comeback but at the end the final rink score was Abergavenny 15. Croesyceillog 19.

On Tuesday the Abergavenny Ladies went to Panteg Park for a game in the South Wales and Monmouthshire Ladies League.
On the rink of Sue Pritchard, Sue Jewell, Sue Williams and Kath Indge after winning the first 2 ends they lost the next 5 to go 7-3 behind. Winning the next 2 ends put Abergavenny in the lead by 8 shots to 7 but they couldn't hold on to the lead as Panteg Park went on to win the next 5 ends to take a 19-8 advantage into the last 4 ends. The Abergavenny Ladies won 3 of the 4 ends to make the final rink score Abergavenny 13. Panteg Park 20.
The rink of Jenni MacGregor, Mary Evans, Val Jones and Lesley Radley were in the lead on the 3rd end 5-1 but with Panteg Park scoring 6 on the 4th end took them into the lead. By the 9th end Abergavenny were 15-6 behind but then made a steady comeback and taking a 19-18 lead on the 17th end by scoring 4 and then finishing the game by scoring a single on the last end, so the final rink score was Abergavenny 20. Panteg Park 18.

On Tuesday the Ladies played a South Wales and Monmouthshire Ladies in game against Panteg House at Avenue Road.
On the rink of Sue Pritchard, Mary Vale, Val Jones and Lesley Radley Panteg House had the better of the first 5 ends leading by 8 shots to 5, the Abergavenny Ladies then won the next 4 ends to take the lead at 12-8. The second half of the game was a very tight affair with only single shots being scored apart from on the 12th end when Abergavenny got a 3, so with Panteg House getting 6 of the 8 single shots it was not enough to prevent an Abergavenny rink win, the final rink score was Abergavenny 17. Panteg House 14.
The rink of Mary Evans, Sue Jewell, Sue Williams and Kath Indge were 5-2 down after 4 ends and they were behind until the 12th end when they scored 4 shots to take a 12-9 lead. Panteg House levelled on the 14th end with the score 12 all, the final 4 ends went to Abergavenny and by scoring 5 on the last end made the final rink score Abergavenny 20. Panteg House 12.

The Ladies were in action again on Wednesday when they went to Chepstow for another South Wales and Monmouthshire Ladies in game.
On the rink of Mary Evans, Sue Jewell, Dawn Kedward and Sue Williams after a close start Chepstow scored 6 on the 5th end to go 12-3 ahead. Abergavenny were unable to reduce the deficit but scoring 3 on the last end made the final rink score Abergavenny 13. Chepstow 19.
The rink of Lesley Radley, Diane Bevan, Julia Salter and Mary Vale never got into the game only scoring a single shot on the 12th end so the final rink score was Abergavenny 1. Chepstow 31.

On Friday the Mixed Team travelled to Troedyrhiw for a game in the South Wales Mixed League.
On the rink of Peter Steed, Jenni MacGregor, Ron Harris and Mike Hayward the first 4 ends went to Troedyrhiw giving them a 7 shot lead. The next 3 ends were won by Abergavenny making the score Abergavenny 6. Troedyrhiw 7. The home team then took control and won 6 of the last 8 ends and making the final rink score Abergavenny 9. Troedyrhiw 19.
The rink of Mary Evans, John Vale, Dawn Kedward and Lesley Radley also lost the first 4 ends to give Tree a 7 shot advantage, by the 7th end it was 11-2 and then Abergavenny bought it back to 11-7 on the 10th. It was 13-12 to Troedyrhiw going into the last end but Troedyrhiw sealed the win by scoring 1 shot making the final rink score Abergavenny 12. Troedyrhiw 14.
On the rink of John MacGregor, Val Jones, Martin Love and Mary Vale the first 5 ends went to Troedyrhiw giving them a 10-0 lead, the next 5 ends saw Abergavenny win 2 of them scoring 3 shots but the home team scored 8 shots to make it 18-3. Abergavenny won 4 of the last 5 ends but it didn't reduce the deficit enough and the final rink score was Abergavenny 9. Troedyrhiw 20.

On Saturday we welcomed Oakdale to Avenue Road for an MBA Division 4 match.
On the rink of Mike Collins, Rob Pursey, John Newell and Dave Cooper the visitors got off to a bright start and were leading after 7 ends by 10-1, by the 14th end the lead had extended slightly to 19-8 and with Oakdale winning 6 of the last 7 ends it became a decisive win for Oakdale with the final rink score of Abergavenny 10. Oakdale 32.
The rink of Peter Steed, Dave Hill, Nigel Jewell and Gwyn Jones won the first 3 ends for a 7-0 lead and kept the lead until the 9th end when they were caught and went 8-9 down. The rink of Rob Poynter, Steve File, Denis McDaid and My McGonagall won the first 5 ends to lead by 7 shots, they then lost the first 4 ends but kept a slender lead of 7-5. On the rink of Ian McCuish,Ron Harris, Jo Campbell and Roger Griffiths the game seemed to start quite well leading 3-1 at the 3rd end, but after winning the next 5 ends Caldicot took the lead by 13-3. By the 14th end Caldicot had extended the lead to 22-5 and it increased a bit more by the end with the final rink score of Abergavenny 11. Caldicot 31
The rink of Mary Vale, Mike Hayward, Sue Williams and Andrew Brown went 8-0 down after 5 ends and the game continued to slip away and by the 14th end Caldicot had a lead of 18-6. Despite a spirited final 4 ends picking up 6 ends the final rink score was Abergavenny 12. Caldicot 25.
On the rink of Jenni MacGregor, Stephen Williams, Martin Love and Gerald Parry the first 6 ends were close but with Caldicot scoring 7 shots on the 7th end it put them 11-3 in the lead. Abergavenny continued to be outscored for the rest of the game and the final rink score was Abergavenny 12. Caldicot 30.

Today the Ladies played a South Wales and Monmouthshire Ladies League game against Panteg House at Avenue Road.
On the rink of Sue Pritchard, Mary Vale, Val Jones and Lesley Radley Panteg House had the better of the first 5 ends leading by 8 shots to 5, the Abergavenny Ladies then won the next 4 ends to take the lead at 12-8. The second half of the game was a very tight affair with only single shots being scored apart from on the 12th end when Abergavenny got a 3, so with Panteg House getting 6 of the 8 single shots it was not enough to prevent an Abergavenny rink win, the final rink score was Abergavenny 17. Panteg House 14.
The rink of Mary Evans, Sue Jewell, Sue Williams and Kath Indge were 5-2 down after 4 ends and they were behind until the 12th end when they scored 4 shots to take a 12-9 lead. Panteg House levelled on the 14th end with the score at 12 all, the final 4 ends went to Abergavenny and by scoring a 5 on the final end made the final rink score Abergavenny 20. Panteg House 12.
The final match score was Abergavenny 37. Panteg House 26.

On Friday the Mixed Team were in the playing against Guest Memorial at Avenue Road
On the rink of John MacGregor, Sue Jewell, Ron Harris and Lesley Radley after 6 ends Abergavenny had built up an advantage of 7-1. Guest Memorial staged a comeback and at the 12th end were 2 behind at 10-8, Abergavenny then went 17 shots to 8 ahead on the 15th end but Guest Memorial made a valiant effort to catch them by scoring 8 shots on the final 3 ends to make the final rink score Abergavenny 17. Guest Memorial 16.
The rink of Jimmy Harris, Mary Evans, Kath Indge and Mandy Harris were 2 shots behind on the 6th end at 3-5, the score differential was the same at the 12th end 7-9, but then Abergavenny won the next 4 ends to take a 14-9 lead, but Guest Memorial came back and by scoring 7 shots over the last 2 ends won the rink with the final rink score of Abergavenny 14. Guest Memorial 16.
On the rink of Jenni MacGregor, Gordon King, Val Jones and Tom Cobb it was all square after 7 ends at 5-5. Abergavenny started to move away on the 11th end at 11-9 and then continued to dominate the game by winning 6 of the last 7 ends and winning the rink with the score of Abergavenny 19. Guest Memorial 11.

On Saturday we had three games in the MBA, GBL and the Mary Wardle League.
The MBA team went to Panteg Park for their League game.
On the rink of Rob Poynter, Steve File, Gordon King and Mike McGonagall for the first 7 ends only singles were scored with 6 of them going to Panteg Park, the game then started to open up with the home team taking a 11-1 lead. Abergavenny scored a 5 on the 11th and a 1 on the 12th to narrow the Parks lead to 11-7 but the home teams knowledge of their green proved too much for Abergavenny and the final rink score was Abergavenny 11. Panteg Park 25.
The rink of Peter Steed, Mike Collins, Ian McCuish and Dave Hill didn't get on the scorecard until the 7th end with the score at 10-1 to Panteg Park, by the 13th end it was 21-1, Panteg Park didn't let up and showed how important home advantage is with the final rink score of Abergavenny 5. Panteg Park 30.
On the rink of Jack Vale, Rob Pursey, Fred Mutimer and Dave Cooper it was a steady start leading 7-6 at 6 ends and the lead extended to 14-9 after the 11th. It was 19-12 after 15 ends but Panteg Park tried to come back over the final 6 ends just falling short at Abergavenny 22. Panteg Park 19 👏👏👏👏.
The rink of Jimmy Harris, John Woodier, Courtney Hemmings and John MacGregor got off to a flying start leading by 9-3 at 6 ends, they kept their 6 shots advantage throughout the game being 13-7 at 12 ends and after the final end the score was Abergavenny 20. Panteg Park 14 👏👏👏👏.
The Ladies had a one rink Mary Wardle League game away at Croesyceillog. After going 5-0 down after 3 ends the Abergavenny Ladies levelled the score at 6-6 on the 8th end. They then took the lead and after the 12th end were 14-8 up, they kept their momentum and kept the Croesyceillog Ladies at bay with the final match score of Abergavenny 22. Croesyceillog 15 👏👏👏.
Last but by no means least was the GBL home game against Bedwas and Trethomas.
On the rink of Mary Vale,Sue Jewell, Roger Griffiths and Charles Harper it was an even start with neither team getting an advantage, it was 4-4 after 7 ends. Bedwas and Trethomas then took the lead and at the 12th end were 9-6 up, they kept their 3-4 shot lead and were 11-7 up on the 15th, Abergavenny then won the final 3 ends scoring the 4 shots required for a rink draw at Abergavenny 11. Bedwas and Trethomas 11.
The rink of Nigel Jewell, Mike Hayward, Gerald Parry and Ron Harris lost the first 4 ends to go 5-0 down, but then won the next 4 to take the lead by 9-5. The next 4 ends went to the visitors so after the 12th end Abergavenny were 12-9 down. With Abergavenny trying to fight back and winning the last 3 ends they just failed to get the win with the final rink score Abergavenny 14. Bedwas and Trethomas 15.
On the rink of Richard Richards, Denis McDaid, Richard and Paul Jones a good start resulted in a 6-2 lead after 6 ends, this form continued so at the 12th the lead was 10-5. By continuing to outscore Bedwas and Trethomas they had a comfortable rink win of Abergavenny 17. Bedwas and Trethomas 8.
