What a difference few days make, last week we bathed in glorious sunshine and this week we have had a deluge of wet weather, on Monday Night when we played in the BIG League it was really bad with very heavy rain and as in the Boules in Gwent County League, known as the B.I.G. League, you play in the rain (Unless the piste if flooded or there is Lighting about) everybody got socked.

In the BIG League we have three teams, our Golds in Division one, our Reds in Division Two and our Blues in Division Three.

Our Golds were playing at Away against the top of the league The Ffrwd Fighters from Abersychen, who have not lost a game this year and that record is still safe as we lost 4-0.

While our Reds were playing home against Monmouth Petanque Club and drew 2-2.

Our Blues were away in New Inn against the Greenlawn Gladiators and lost 3-1.

A slight improvement on last week, between our three teams we did have one draw, we do however remain positive we are not half way through the season yet.

On Thursday nights we run our own Mini League where we have four teams who play each other on a rotation basis, they are Team Deri, Team Rholben, Team Blorenge and Team Skirrid.
With the winning team awarded a trophy at the end of the season.

On Thursday 04 June 2026 the results was:-

Rholben 1 Skirrid 3

Blorenge 0 Deri 4

What can we say it’s been a lovely week with gloriously hot weather for May and once again this week Abergavenny Petanque were playing in two leagues, on Monday nights its normally the Boules in Gwent County League know as the BIG League however due to the bank holiday this week it was played on Tuesday night and on Thursday night we had our own league know as the Mini League.

In the BIG League we have three teams, our Golds in Division one, our Reds in Division Two and our Blues in Division Three.

Our Golds were playing at Home against The Ffrwd Bears from Abersychen losing 3-1 in a close match.

While our Reds were playing away also against a Ffrwd team this time it was the Ffrwd Ravens who won 4-0.

Our Blues joined the Golds at home playing against The Greyhound k9s from Llantrisant but lost 4-0.

All in all you could say it was not a very good week for our BIG League teams with all three losing.
Oh well positive thinking there is always the cup as we are bound to get one of our teams through to the next round as our Golds have been drawn against our Blues with the match to be player before Monday 13th July 2026.

On Saturday 09 May2026 have had the second of our annual friendly matches when we travelled to The West Hereford Petanque Club in Broomy Hill, Hereford. Unfortunately due to Holidays and other reasons we had reduced numbers so in the true spirit of friendship West Hereford lent us 3 of their players to even up the numbers.
The weather was lovely and we had a wonderful day out with some really close games which the final score of 12-4 to Abergavenny didn’t reflect.
Our sincere thanks to the West Hereford Petanque Club for their marvellous hospitably and we look forward to the return in August.
