Abergavenny Petanque Club

Well it’s still all systems go at Abergavenny Petanque as September is one of our busiest months, while we see the end of the League Seasons and our Monthly Melees we play our in-house Singles, Doubles and Triples competitions, more on those in the next few weeks.

During the summer on Monday nights we have been playing in the Boules in Gwent County League, known as the B.I.G. League in which we have three teams, our Golds in Division one, our Reds in Division Two and our Blues in Division Three.

These normally take place on a Monday evening however due the Bank Holiday this week it was held on Tuesday 01 September 2026 and was the penultimate match.

Our Golds were playing at home against The Caerleon Cohorts with the final result being a 3-1 win for the Cohorts

Our Reds were away against The Greyhound Shihtzus from Llantrisant, Usk and lost 3-1

While our Blues were home against the Llanygolf Dragons from Llanyravon, Cwmbran and so as not to be left out also lost 3-1

Well if nothing else we are consistent.

On Wednesday we had our practice session, during the summer months, these take place every Wednesday afternoon and start at 1:30pm and are open to all to come along and have a game if they wish.

So if you would like to have a go then please come along.
If you don’t have any boules we have some spare you can use, you can find us in Bailey Park Abergavenny, just outside the Pavilion at the top end of the park, we will be there from 1:15 pm for a few hours, please come along.

Also on Wednesday, but in the evening our Blues were playing in the semi final of the B.I.G. League Henry Powell Cup, they were drawn against the Ffrwd Fighters from Abersychen with the match being played at The Greenlawn Club in New Inn with the Ffrwd coming out on top and through to the Final, a great run from our Blues a very well done to them.

On Thursday nights during the summer months we run our own Mini League where we have four teams who play each other on a rotation basis, they are Team Deri, Team Rholben, Team Blorenge and Team Skirrid.

On Thursday 3rd September 2026 the results was:-
Rholben 3 Skirrid 1

Blorenge 2 Deri 2

This was the last match in the 2026 season of our Mini League which has been a lot of fun throughout the season, together with a very friendly completive edge. Well played to all who took part.

The Final Result was:-

In 1st Place Team Deri

In 2nd Place Team Skirrid

In 3rd Place Team Rholben

In 4th Place Team Blorenge

Once a month on a Saturday afternoon we hold a melee; these melees are for club members with prizes for the winners and an annual trophy for the winner of our yearly best player competition, our year runs from October to September.

This month’s melee took place on Saturday 05 September 2026 and was the last melee in the 2025-2026 seasons and what a lovely day we had with a great turn out and glorious sunshine.

Many congratulations to today’s winners who were:-

In 3rd Place Kevin Matthias

In 2nd Place Ron Smith

And our Winner was John Prosser

As this was the last in this current season we can announce the winners of our annual competition and they were:-

In 3rd place Raj Kidnasamy 12 Wins and 73 points

In 2nd place John Prosser with 13 Wins and 69 Points

And this year’s trophy winner was Alex Bowman with 13 Wins and 83 Points

The new season 2026 -2027 starts in October.

Well here we are at the end of August and we are still playing every week, although we are moving towards the end of the league seasons with only a few weeks to go.

Last Monday 24 August2026 our Golds were playing away against The Caerleon Blues with the final result being a 4-0 win for Caerleon.

Our Reds had a week off this week as they had a bye.

While our Blues were away against the White Hart Stags from Abersychen which4ended in a 2-2 draw.

On Wednesday we had our practice session, during the summer months, these take place every Wednesday afternoon and start at 1:30pm and are open to all to come along and have a game if they wish.

So if you would like to have a go then please come along.

Our Reds were away playing against Monmouth Petanque Club and had a good 3-1 win.

While our Blues, were at home against The Greenlawn Gladiators from New Inn, Pontypool but lost 3-1.

On Wednesday we had our practice session, during the summer months, these take place every Wednesday afternoon and start at 1:30pm and are open to all to come along and have a game if they wish.

On Saturday 22 August 2026 we had the pleasure of playing host to West Hereford Petanque Club who were visiting us for our annual home friendly and what a great day we all had starting at 1:30pm with thirty-seven players, we played a total of 24 games 18 Doubles and 6 games triples with the final result being a 15 -9 win for Abergavenny.

Well here we are half way through another month, the sun is still shining and we are still playing Petanque and it’s been a busy week at Abergavenny Petanque.

On Monday nights we play in the Boules in Gwent County League, known as the B.I.G. League in which we have three teams, our Golds in Division one, our Reds in Division Two and our Blues in Division Three.

Last Monday 10 August our Golds were playing away against The Ffrwd Bears from Abersychen with the final result being a respectable 2-2 draw.

Our Reds were at home also playing against one of the other Ffrwd teams the Ravens who took the glory with a won 3-1.

Our Blues, were playing away against The Greyhound K9’s from Llantrisant, Usk but lost 4-0

On Wednesday we had our practice session, during the summer months, these take place every Wednesday afternoon and start at 1:30pm and are open to all to come along and have a game if they wish.

Our Golds, in Division one, were playing at home but lost 4-0 to Caerleon A,

Our Reds, in Division Two, were playing away against The Ponthir Bees and lost 3-1

And our Blues, in Division Three, also playing at home, won 3-1 against Clytha B.

On Wednesday we had our practice session, during the summer months, these take place every Wednesday afternoon and start at 1:30pm and are open to all to come along and have a game if they wish.

So if you would like to have a go then please come along.

Yet another lovely week at Abergavenny Petanque.

Last Monday 27 July our Golds were playing away against The Clytha A with the final result being a respectable 2-2 draw.

Our Reds were at home against The Panteg Pheonix and they also had a 2-2 draw.

Our Blues were away against The Caerleon Silures but lost 4-0

On Wednesday we had our practice session, during the summer months, these take place every Wednesday afternoon and start at 1:30pm and are open to all to come along and have a game if they wish.

Our melee which was due to take place on 11 July 2026 was cancelled due to the extreme heat at the time and re-scheduled for 01 August 2026 and what a lovely day we had with a great turn out and glorious sunshine.

While our Golds were entertaining Greenlawn A at Home our Reds were away at Greenlawn playing their Giants team but unfortunately lost 3-1

Our Blues had a rest this week as they had a bye.

On Wednesday we had our practice session, during the summer months, these take place every Wednesday afternoon and start at 1:30pm and are open to all to come along and have a game if they wish.

Our Reds were at home against The Greenlawn F troop from New Inn unfortunately also lost 3-1

While our Blues, who were playing away against The Caerleon Centurians, had a better result with a 2-2 draw.

Wednesday we had our practice session, during the summer months these take place every Wednesday afternoon and start at 1:30pm and are open to all to come along and have a game if they wish.

Well weather wise it’s been another hot week but we have managed to get in a few games of Petanque.

On Monday nights we play in the Boules in Gwent County League, known as the B.I.G. League in which we have three teams, our Golds in Division one, our Reds in Division Two and our Blues in Division Three.

Last Monday 06 July our Golds were playing at home against The Panteg Steelers from Torfaen and Lost 3-1.

Our Reds were playing away against The Greyhound Terriers from Llantrisant, Usk they also lost but 4-0

Our Blues had a Bye this week so while the Reds were away at the Greyhound our Blues organised a friendly at home with one of the other Greyhound teams The Shihtzus, each side had 5 players so they played two triples and two doubles with the final result being 3-1 to the Blues, A very enjoyable evening played in a truly friendly manner.

Wednesday we had our practice session, during the summer months these take place every Wednesday afternoon and start at 1:30pm and are open to all to come along and have a game if they wish.

Also on Wednesday, but in the evening, our Reds were playing away in the B.I.G. League Henry Powell cup against The Ponthir A who came out on top so our Reds run in the cup is over for another year

This month’s melee was due to take place on Saturday 11th July 2026 but due to the extreme heat we have been experiencing it was decided to cancel and rearrange, the July Melee will now take place on 1st August and the August melee due to take place on the 8thth is moved to the 15th

Last Monday 29 June 2026 was the first game in the second half of the season with our Golds playing away against Caerleon Greens but lost by 3-1

Our Reds were playing at home this week against the N.H.S.O.B. Sharks also from Caerleon and had a good 3-1 win.

While our Blues also at home, had a 3-1 win against The Ponthir S&CC A team.

On Wednesday we had our practice session, during the summer months these take place on a Wednesday afternoons and start at 1:30pm and are open to all to come along and have a game if they wish.

The Community Wellbeing Parkinson Group were due to visit us on the afternoon of Thursday 2rd July 2026 however had to postpone, the visit has been rearranged for next Thursday 09 July 2026 at 3pm.
