LONG COURSE WEEKEND 2026 - TENBY
Huge well done to all those who come to West Wales Fitness Coaching classes that took part in Long Course Weekend in Tenby.
Whether you did the swim, bike or run or maybe all 3 days, I know you all enjoyed. Thank you to those who forwarded these photos & it is great seeing you all smiling & I love seeing your achievements. They are very inspirational & hopefully will encourage a few others to dream big next year & give it a go.
The 3 days has something for everyone with loads of different distances to choose from in the swim, bike & run. You can choose to just do 1 activity, 2 or all 3. This is what makes the LCW such an inclusive event.
You simply cannot beat the atmosphere down in Tenby, so time to start training ready for 2027 ???
Once again, huge well done everyone, your hard work & dedication in coming week in week out to classes in all weathers is what sets you apart & makes memories like these possible.

POST OPERATION - Blood clots (DVT)
If this post helps 1 person out their, then it has done its job.
I had my knee operation on Wednesday 13th May 2026, but by Sunday evening 17th May my left calf started to feel uncomfortable & sore. It felt like I had torn a muscle in my calf badly & my leg started to feel cold, swollen & a changed a different colour. I kept moving my toes around, working the calf muscle with a few seated calf pumps in the hope it would help. I assumed the pain was due to damage done to my leg from the operation & that everything would settle down in the next few days.
Come Monday 18th May, my leg was no better. But, I still wanted to attend work as usual & I definitely needed to get out of the house. Luckily, I have a paramedic (Catrin) who comes to one of my spin classes because otherwise I might be writing a very different post tonight. Catrin asked how my leg was & I gave the usual response -"its good thanks". Then, I paused & just happened to mention that the only thing wrong was my calf. It feels like it is swollen, cold & as if I have torn a muscle. She quickly made it clear I really needed to go to A & E straight away that night as any operation like mine is actually a high risk operation with significant risk of lower limb blood clots (DVT).
To be fair Natalie had mentioned this to me earlier in the day. Also, the hospital notes I took home after my operation did says that in the event of any calf pain to go straight to A & E. But, as usual sometimes we all feel like we might be over thinking it & don't want to bother the hospital. We have already decided it is probably nothing.
However, had I not gone to the A & E that night & received precautionary blood thinners, then todays situation may be much worse. Luckily, I have been taking the blood thinners for the last 36hrs because todays ultrasound confirmed I actually have blood clots in my arteries in my lower leg. These can be life threatening.
So, now I am having the right treatment & I will be closely monitored in the coming months.
So, my message to you all is simple - if you ever have an operation & something similar happens to you, please don't put off going straight

FINALLY KNEE OPERATION DONE TODAY ✅
Thank you all for the lovely best wishes messages etc.❤️
Today went as well as can be expected. I actually had more work done than initially planned as there was not only a horizontal radial tare, but a long vertical tare. So, loads of internal stitches to try to pull it all back together to form what looks like a. Normal. Meniscus.
I understand that this was just an attempt to try to give me a chance of maybe running again one day. But, obviously I am under no issulsions that this will be my last operation & as the specialist said again today a HTO (High Tibial Osteotomy) or knee replacement is probably the next outcome. But, the body is a wonderful thing, so who knows what the next 6-12 months holds??
The next 4 weeks are hopefully gradually building up to full weight bearing on the leg and then from there who knows.
BUT, ONE THING IS FOR SURE - giving up is not an option. I will do everything I can to try to run again & cycle one day without pain.
WHY??
THAT IS SIMPLY:
When you see your brother fighting Cancer & see people turning up to my classes who are quietly battling their own battles, it is so damn inspirational. Some still have cancer & are still having chemotherapy, others recovering from heart attacks, broken bones or tendon/muscle strains, dealing with grief having lost a loved one, struggling with anxiety & depression and so much more.
I would be lying if I didn't admit coming to classes most weeks in a heck of a lot of pain, very little sleep & dosed up with painkillers and caffeine has been bloody tough. If, I am being totally honest I just got better at hinding it.
BUT, that was definitely 100% because I was able to draw strength from all these wonderful people in my West Wales Fitness Coaching classes & I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being amazing & lovely people
Love you all & See you all in some shape or form in classes next week ❤️
*In the words of a few of you who come to classes - NO EXCUSES 😂

Wow, what a start to the Month of May 2026 by some of the lovely people who come to our classes at West Wales fitness coaching.
Last weekend saw Donna take on her first Hyrox event in Cardiff, having an amazing experience in the Principality stadium. Those tuff circuit training session helping 💪🏋️
Then this weekend we had loads of people taking on cycling challenges:
Firstly Jackie doing the overnight ride London (70 miles).
Saturday Eurig, Kylie, Eirwen & Neil all doing the really challenging CARTEN 100+Miles- Cardiff to Tenby ride. 💯🚴
Sunday, Euros & Cynthia took on the brutal Fred Whitton Challenge ride - If you know you know. There are some climbs on this route I would struggle getting up in my car 💪🚴
And the events didn't stop there as Sunday saw Tony, Eirwen, Neil, Sarah & Ed all doing the Aberaeron Go tri. Well done everyone ⭐🥇
A superb local event, perfect for both the experienced triathletes as well as those who might never have done one before. The event was made all the more special by the fact that Lilly (Ed & Sarah daughter) did her first ever triathlon.
I have had the privilege first-hand of seeing Lilly supporting her parents at many events over the years, as well supporting other west wales fitness coaching participants at events with the banners her and her sister have made. So, it is so great to see the next generation being inspired and then taking part themselves. Well done Lilly 🥇
And for me this is what West Wales Fitness Coaching is all about - inspiring each other, supporting each other. Sometimes it may seem scary or you are not sure of you can do something. But, being brave enough to try is good enough for us at West Wales Fitness Coaching. It is about making it to the start line and that is enough.
Huge kudos to you all, keep inspiring and dreaming big. 🥇
