GUS is a perfect example of why it is important to react to lameness, especially in a young animal. Gus came to us for a physiotherapy assessment following a short period of left forelimb lameness. His vets had given him a course of pain medication and rest, but his owner had a niggling feeling that something wasn't right.

On his physiotherapy assessment we noticed:
- reduced muscle mass in his left forelimb shoulder muscles
- abduction and lateral paw loading in the limb forelimb when walking and trotting
- lip licking and backing away when performing range of motion in the shoulder and elbow.

Gus was referred on the Kentdale veterinary specialists for further investigation. A CT scan showed him to have non displayed fragmented medial coronoid process in both elbows.

Gus is now on a exercise management programme and pain/NSAIDs medication for 4-6 weeks before being reassessed.

If Gus' condition had just been left, the disease progresse would of worsened and lead to a poor long term pronoises and long term pain and lameness. Hopefully, with his early diagnosis and rehabilitation Gus will make a good recovery.
