⚡Hyndburn Leisure Centre is showing decarbonisation in action.

In partnership with Hyndburn Borough Council, the centre has benefited from major investment to reduce carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.

Through Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme funding, works included:
✅ removal of the gas supply
✅ a new electric-powered sub-station
✅ air source heat pumps
✅ solar panels
✅ battery storage
✅ new heating controls

These works have helped reduce CO₂ emissions by 71%, making a major contribution to Hyndburn Borough Council’s ambition for net zero carbon activities by 2030.

A great example of how investment in public leisure can support both community wellbeing and environmental progress.

♻️Small actions make a big difference.

Across our two leisure facilities, we recycle all waste, with 100% avoiding landfill.

That means waste produced across our sites is being managed more responsibly, supporting our wider commitment to reduce environmental impact and keep improving how we operate.

Our environmental approach includes reviewing recycling practices, reducing unnecessary waste and identifying better ways to manage resources across our facilities.

This is sustainability in everyday action.

🌊 We’re proud to support Drowning Prevention Week 2026, taking place from 13th–20th June.

At Hyndburn Leisure, we support thousands of people every year to build confidence in the water and gain vital swimming and water safety skills.

This national campaign, led by RLSS UK, helps children and young people learn how to stay safe in, on and around water before the summer holidays.

🌊 New SEN Family Swim Session 🌊

We’re pleased to launch our new SEN Family Swim at The Cath Thom Leisure Centre, starting this Sunday.

This relaxed and inclusive swim session is designed for young people with additional needs and their families, providing a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy time in the pool together.
