British Ju Jitsu Goes From Strength to Strength!

On 3rd May 2026, the British Ju Jitsu National Governing Body Referee & Officials Congress took place at the Village Hotel, Walsall β€” and it was a powerful reminder of how BJJAGB continues to grow, evolve, and raise standards across the board.

With over 70 participants in attendance, this was one of our most successful congresses to date. We welcomed new candidates, officials renewing their licences, and experienced referees taking part in a refresher course β€” all committed to continuous development.

The day was structured across three dedicated classrooms, allowing groups to be divided appropriately and ensuring focused, high-quality learning at every level. This professional approach highlights exactly why BJJAGB continues to go from strength to strength

A real highlight of the day was seeing candidates achieve their next level of progression β€” moving from Desk Officials (Striped Tie) to Blue Tie, and on to the prestigious Senior Referee Red Tie. These symbolic tie presentations represent hard work, dedication, and the ongoing commitment to excellence within our officiating team.

Here are some fantastic moments from the day β€” in the classrooms, on the hotel steps, and capturing the special tie presentation ceremonies.

Congratulations to everyone who progressed, and thank you to all who took part in making the day such a success.

The future of British Ju Jitsu officiating has never looked stronger!

BJJAGB Course and Competition Workshop
Bradford – Saturday 31st January 2026
Course Tutor: Sensei Michael Holden, 8th Dan
Sensei Michael Holden visited Sensei Raj Soren’s dojo in Bradford to deliver a Ju-Jitsu training course combined with a Competition Workshop.
Following introductions and the opening bow, Sensei Michael began the session with a fun and engaging warm-up, using a series of paired drills.
He then demonstrated the importance of correct footwork and balance breaking, before progressing to defences against punches.
These techniques included wrist throws flowing into restraining controls on the ground.
The first session concluded with defences against multiple punches, incorporating effective throwing techniques.
After a short break, Sensei Michael introduced the full range of BJJAGB competition events.
Students had the opportunity to practise sparring, grappling, and ground-fighting elements of Continuous Fighting, as well as learning the format and requirements of Random Attacks.
The morning concluded with a question-and-answer session, allowing students to gain further insight into both technical and competition aspects of Ju-Jitsu.
Many thanks to Sensei Raj and all his students for your great work and fully participating in the course
