What lovely clients I have 💕

Ahhhh they are just so comfy and easy to wear, especially if your a busy mum, are working from home or retired but they can also disguise the fact that we are putting on weight.
It’s a good idea to put your real clothes on now and again and have a reality check 😩

I often train myself in a commercial gym, and so often I see many unsafe practices going, on it’s quite scary, some things only take a moment and can prevent really serious injury.

Every time I am in the gym I see people forgetting these safety tips x

AlWAYS PUT IN AND USE SAFETY BARS when you are squatting, lunging etc in the rack … and make sure your barbell is below shoulder level, you should not have to go on tip toes to take or return your barbell to or from the rack, if you are on tip toes lower your barbell.

PUT YOUR CLIPS ON YOUR BARBELL, a slight imbalance, a wobble or loss of focus would mean all those weights crashing to the floor, hurting yourself or others.

ASK SOMEONE TO SPOT YOU when bench pressing heavy… 3 times I have ‘ rescued men’ who haven’t been able to get the barbell back up… if it does happen and you haven’t got a spotter and no one is about to help, try to gently roll the bar to one side, sit up and slide the rest of the bar off
.
DONT HAVE A BANNANA BACK when deadlifting …Hinge at the hips, Have a neutral spine, engage your core and use your hips and legs to lift..

WHAT IS YOUR HEAD AND NECK DOING ? Whilst your doing all these exercises for your legs, …(leg press especially), back, shoulders etc just stop for a second and notice what your head and neck are doing …. Are they aligned and where they are meant to be or are you straining your neck and not even noticing …

Maybe it’s because I had 8 kids, I see the danger, as that’s what mums do 😃 BUT maybe it’s because the man who taught me was so strict about these things and rightly so, and now I pass this on to my clients… it is so important to lift safely otherwise unfortunately accidents do happen!
Just take a moment to think about what you’re doing and be safe !
It is fine to book a few personal training sessions sessions just to focus on technique, form and safety if you are in doubt about what you are doing at the gym .

Morning
Are you putting off going to the gym because it is very out of your comfort zone and you are sure everyone will be watching you… this anxiety is very common and stops a lot of people reaching their fitness goals..
I chose to rent the gym space at MarcDiakeses HD performance centre to train my clients… if you look this place up you will see it’s a MMA gym, which to some of you may seem even more daunting… it’s painted black and is full of boxing bags and rings and cages, with lots of wonderful fighting art work on the walls
BUT
NOBODY is in it apart from me and you for your sessions..I only use it when the fighters don’t, it’s an amazing space with a weights area and gym equipment …
Just perfect for us ….

THAT VERY SCARY FIT PERSON ...AND ME

By christine strong
(Inspired by my own feelings 12 years ago )

I was feeling fat and frumpy,
I was feeling insecure,
And just looking at a trainer,
Was beyond me I was sure,
They all seemed rather alien,
And not at all like me,
So self assured and confident,
Something I would never be,
They did not seem to smile a lot,
they held their heads up high,
But then again I never dared
To look one in the eye,
But then I met a great one,
It was really all by chance,
I did not know the level,
To which my life he would enchance,
He was patient, he was clever,
He was kind and he was wise,
He believed in me
and made me feel
like I could reach the skies

So
Now I am a trainer,
And I hope you know I feel,
That your worries about your wobbly bits
I really very real
And I’d like to get to know you
To say hello and smile
I’d love the chance to work with you
Even for a little while,
I hope you would feel,
That I was very real,
And that I’d understand,
That feeling fat and frumpy,
Well... that bit really was not planned.
And from my heart, I’d like to help
To make your dreams come true,
So working with a trainer,
Is one of the BEST things you ever do

Just get in touch
Cos when I’m full ...I’m full !!

The press up is a powerful resistance exercise that requires no equipment, you use your own body weight as the resistance and it uses plenty of muscles….
Your triceps…targeting those bingo wings
Your shoulders and chest
Your core( pull this in to work those Abbs )
Your back
And would you believe your quads… those big muscles at the front of your legs are worked as they keep the legs straight and rigid….

You really don’t need all sorts of fancy machines and expensive equipment and complicated workouts.

Most of my clients begin believing they will never be able to do a proper press up… but just look at Joanne … not bad for a lady who only ever did cardio at the gym 🏋️‍♂️🏋️‍♂️🔥🔥

There are many positives to training that you may not even consider when you begin.
One that happened to me was about posture, this was something I did not even think about … check yourself right now, are you standing upright and tall, holding in your core, are your shoulders back, or is everything just sort of flopping and drooping, are you hunched around your back and shoulders.
If you take steps to improve your posture you will instantly look and feel so much better, more confident, and slimmer…
Training correctly really can have a positive effect on your posture.
Apparently before I began training I had a funny little trudge, which my trainer demonstrated to me one day when my posture had improved… it seems to my horror, I had been walking around like Quasimodo for years unknowingly. I now make sure it’s something I work on 😩😊

Thank you Mavis for this little testimonial .
Mavis was struggling with all the conflicting advice easily available out there… sometimes we can get overwhelmed…. A few sessions was all Mavis needed to make some life changes and get back on track 😊

It’s really important to support your family and friends in there quest to keep being fit and healthy.
Yesterday I had a lovely couple Kate and Phil doing there session together… we just adjust the weights to suit you both, in this little video Kate was doing the work and Phil was having a well earned little stretch inbetween sets 😊
If you think this is something you and your partner could do, please get in touch with a message.

Here’s my client Joanne doing part of her warm up.
Your warm up is really important as it helps prevent injury and also gets your mind into workout mode, therefore preparing your body.
Begin with 5/6 minutes cardio to raise your body temperature, the rowing machine is always my preferred price of equipment as it uses 86% of your muscles,
Follow this with some dynamic( moving) stretches, it’s a good idea to focus on the muscles you plan to use during your work out and any muscles that feel a bit tight.
If you still want to skip the warm up ask yourself,
Would the elite and the professionals skip their warm up?
Of course not … if it’s good enough for them ..then you deserve it too 😃
