Well my big shouty voice came out of retirement today!
The kids down at knockshinnoch were on need of a wee session on the ins and outs of showing, learning how to stand their ponies and run them up in hand, and then going on to learn a basic ridden show.
I started teaching at the first yard I ever worked at then did some freelance work whilst I was schooling youngsters in my "Peatside Equestrian" days, but it's been a while, and a nice wee change of scene!
What a lovely bunch of kids, all so keen and happy. If anyone is looking for somewhere fun to take the kids to learn about riding and looking after ponies in South Ayrshire, then Knockshinnoch Equestrian is the place to be!
Might even do a little more of this through the summer 🤔
Considering coming out of retirement for a little while during the summer holidays while clipping is quiet... 🤔
This would be very limited and on a temporary basis only.
I've always kept teaching as an add on to my insurance so I'm covered if anyone's asked me to help over the years, so would be happy to offer lessons for kiddies to give em some fun in the holidays, or longreining/groundwork lessons for anyone who's looking to back their own youngster or just wants to learn a new skill.

As many horses are moving into summer fields and 24 hour turnout, please remember the importance of gradual change!
Re read the first sentence...
They're changing onto different grass, AND for much longer periods of time!
Due to these factors, colic is a higher risk during these times, and its important to make the change gradually, bring then back into their stables for a break for a little while.
Mine are certainly feeling the difference in the grass, when they come in all they want to do is snooze with their little full bellies, it's like going from basic rations to an all you can eat buffet, their digestive systems are working overtime!
