Gordon Armstrong
1960β2026
It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our Honorary President, Mr Gordon Armstrong.
Gordon was a longstanding member of the club and over the years, wrote himself into almost every chapter of Airdrie Centralβs history. A three-time Club Champion, and a member of our back-to-back Scottish Senior Fours winning team, he was certainly no stranger to success on the green during his time at Airdrie Central.
However, it was off the green that Gordon truly excelled as a member of our club. Club President on 14 occasions, including an incredible 13-year stint from 2013 until 2025, Gordon steered the club through times of difficulty and uncertainty and more importantly, helped get us through the other side.
When the club became our own and Gordon helped secure our self-destiny, he spent countless hours working on grant applications, allowing us to improve our facilities year on year and take pride in the club that was now ours. He also took on the role of Greenkeeper and developed his skills as he went along, always making sure we had the best playing surface that we could manage with the limited funds available.
Gordon never sought recognition. Everything he did was simply because he loved the club.
Gordon was also well known throughout the district for his one-man musical experience, travelling around the local clubs and sharing his love of music through his many talents. Whether singing or playing the keyboard and accordion, Gordon brought plenty of entertainment and enjoyment to so many people over the years and he leaves those good memories with us too.
In recent years, his illness curtailed his playing days, but he was never happier than when he got his Airdrie Central uniform on and came down to support and be part of the club. It was only right that, a few years ago, we elected him as the first Honorary President in our history, in recognition of the incredible work he had carried out on behalf of the club and the esteem in which he was held by all our members.
Gordon leaves behind a legacy at Airdrie Central that will be difficult to match. His contribution to our club, both on and off the green, will never be forgotten.
We are heartbroken at his passing, but we have many years of happy memories and good laughs to cherish.
Our thoughts are with his son Craig and his family, along with all of his many friends.
