Hi all, Kevin here; as I'm leading the sessions this week I thought it might be good to introduce myself.
I've been a teacher for the last twenty five years, and worked in specialist schools for the last fifteen years. I've spent most of my life outdoors and was in the Scouts for many years, including becoming a leader - now my son goes to the same group I was at and I still help out now and then.
I was very lucky to get the chance to qualify as a Forest School leader over a decade ago and absolutely loved it from day one. As well as my qualification of level 3 FS leadership and outdoor first aid, as a special school teacher I train regularly in safeguarding and child protection, working with neuro diverse young people and a lot more besides. I've been leading sessions ever since I qualified, and currently run all the weekly sessions for my school as well as running sessions for WNGO in the school holidays. My wife is a Forest School staff trainer and so we keep well up to date with the latest Forest School developments.
There's nothing better for me than seeing young people engaging with the natural world around them, learning new skills and especially the way this lets them gain so much resilience, confidence and self awareness. I'm a passionate believer in the benefits of time in the outdoors for young people (and adults too!) and getting the chance to put this into practise is a real privilege.
When I'm not in the woods, you'll find me fishing for anything that swims, playing cricket, practicing my guitar or looking after my collection of koi carp, reptiles and spiders.
