Why do we love BVR? πŸ’™πŸ’›

Because it’s more than just running.

It’s the medals, friendships, coffee mornings, awards, post-run drinks, views, smiles, teamwork, and the amazing volunteers who make it all happen.

BVR is where running becomes community. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈβœ¨

Wednesday club night… with a seaside twist! πŸŒŠπŸƒβ€β™€οΈβ˜€οΈ

This week we swapped our usual routes for a trip to Southsea, enjoying miles by the coast, plenty of laughs, and great company. Running really is about the people as much as the places.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made it another brilliant BVR adventure! πŸ’™

The heat may have cancelled our usual Wednesday evening club run, but it certainly didn’t stop our members.

Huge applause to everyone who laced up their trainers early morning and got the miles done before the temperatures climbed. πŸ’™πŸ‘

Running isn’t always about perfect conditions it’s about showing up, adapting and supporting one another.

Well done everyone! πŸŒžπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

πŸ’™πŸ’› BVR Running Spotlight – Roger Bearn πŸ’›πŸ’™

Roger joined Blackwater Valley Runners around 2012 with one big goal in mind β€” to complete a marathon before turning 40.

With the support of the club behind him, he went on to complete Brighton Marathon in 2013, finishing in a brilliant 3:44.

From there, Roger continued to build his running journey, achieving a marathon PB of 3:36 at Bournemouth Marathon in 2014 and a half marathon PB of 1:36, having worked his way down from 2:08.

His journey hasn’t been without challenges. In 2015, Roger ran Brighton Marathon for charity after the loss of his mum to cancer β€” later discovering he had completed it while running with a pr*****ed disc in his spine.

After treatment and time away from running, he returned in 2016 and has continued to keep going through the usual niggles, setbacks and life getting busy.

To date, Roger has completed around 7 marathons, 25 half marathons and even took on a 55k Lake District ultra with nearly 7,000ft of elevation β€” a challenge he admits β€œbroke him a bit!”

These days, Roger’s goal is simple: to keep going, enjoy shorter distances, and see whether there’s still another PB in there somewhere.

For Roger, running is also a huge part of his mental wellbeing β€” a way to escape daily pressure, reset, and feel better afterwards.

Roger, your honesty, resilience and long-term commitment to running are exactly what BVR is all about. πŸ’™πŸ’›

Please join us in celebrating Roger’s running journey πŸ‘

πŸ’™πŸ’› BVR Wins of the Week πŸ’™πŸ’›

What do you get when you combine runners, horses, river crossings and some seriously tough Welsh hills?

An unforgettable adventure! πŸŽπŸƒ

A huge congratulations to Isabella, Kat, Cora (with Mike’s support) who took on the Man vs Horse Marathon Relay in Mid Wales this weekend.

This unique event sees runners sharing the course with horses across challenging trails, river crossings and plenty of hills. The team even managed to beat their friend Deb and her horse Polly… although this year, the overall winner was still a horse! πŸ˜„πŸ΄

With stunning scenery, challenging climbs and plenty of unforgettable moments along the way, it certainly looked like an event to remember.

A fantastic achievement and another brilliant example of the adventures our BVR members get up to beyond the club runs.

πŸ‘ Please join us in congratulating Isabella, Kat, Cora on an incredible day out representing Blackwater Valley Runners! πŸ’™πŸ’›

Progress isn’t made by wishing for it… it’s earned one session at a time. πŸ’™πŸ’›

Last night was Week 1 of our 3-week coaching series, where members came together to learn, challenge themselves and pick up valuable tips to become stronger, more confident runners.

A huge thank you to our coach and to Alan Perrett for organising such a fantastic evening. Sessions like these remind us that improvement isn’t just about running fasterβ€”it’s about learning, supporting one another and enjoying the journey together.

Whether you’re chasing a PB, training for your first race or simply running for the love of it, every session is another step forward.

Here’s to Week 2! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

πŸ’™πŸ’› BVR Wins of the Week – Nathan Persaud πŸ’›πŸ’™

This week’s BVR Win goes to Nathan Persaud, who took on the inaugural Alice Holt Half Marathon hosted by Wild Deer Events.

A challenging course through the beautiful Alice Holt Forest, with over 1,000ft of climbing, woodland trails and plenty of hills, made this a true test from start to finish.

Nathan crossed the line in an impressive 28th place out of 79 runners in the half marathon – a fantastic result on such a demanding course. πŸ‘

The race wasn’t without its adventure either… Nathan (along with around 30 other runners! πŸ˜…) briefly went off course before finding his way back thanks to the event’s excellent marshals and signage.

A special shout-out to fellow BVR members Lucy Evans and Donna Marion, who were out marshalling and cheering runners on throughout the day. πŸ’™πŸ’›

Nathan credits the club’s Friday Hills sessions with Dave and Josh for helping prepare him for this event – proving that those tough hill reps really do pay off!

Congratulations Nathan on another fantastic performance and for flying the BVR colours with pride. πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

✨ Have you had a BVR Win this week? we’d love to celebrate it. Send us your photos and story! πŸ’™πŸ’›

πŸ’™πŸ’› BVR Running Spotlight – Rachael Davies πŸ’›πŸ’™

Running has always been part of Rachael’s life, growing up with a mum who competed as an international athlete.

As a youngster, Rachael competed for Hounslow AC, enjoying everything from 800m races to the 100m sprint. However, she drifted away from the sport in her late teens before rediscovering running in her late twenties through the occasional parkrun.

After becoming a mum, running became an important part of her weight-loss journey, but it soon grew into much more than that.

Today, Rachael runs at least six times a week and can often be found pounding the streets of Aldershot and Tongham alongside her husband and running partner, Robbie. 😊

Her proudest achievement came last year when she achieved a goal many runners only dream about β€” becoming part of the 1% Marathon Club by completing her first marathon at the age of 40.

Despite once preferring shorter distances, Rachael now proudly calls the marathon her favourite race distance and loves the challenge and structure of marathon training.

Looking ahead, her goal is simple:

🎯 Stay injury-free and chase a new Parkrun PB this summer.

When asked what keeps her motivated, her answer was easy:

πŸ’™ Her son β€” staying fit and healthy so she can run, play and make memories with him for years to come.

Congratulations Rachael. Your journey shows that it’s never too late to set new goals, challenge yourself and achieve something extraordinary. πŸ’™πŸ’›

πŸ‘ Show Rachael some BVR love in the comments!
