Back to old haunts this weekend.

13/08/2024

It was another day of player milestones on Sunday, as Pyestock secured a comfortable victory over Vagabonds CC.

Firstly congratulations to Jake Baldwin, who celebrated his 100th Pyestock appearance by taking his 11th and 12th Stumping for the club. This writes Jakes name into the club record books, as (even though stumping haven't always been accurately recorded in the past) no one in the clubs history have more to their name. Jake now sits on top of many legendary names of the past.

Stumpings
12 - Jake Baldwin (2017 to present)
10 - Cliff Simmons (1984-98)
7 - Bill Abbott (?-1992), Paul Heath (1988-2023)
5 - Glenn Taylor (2011-23), Barry Grigg (1996-2005), Tom Threlfall (2014-2020)
4 - Vaughan Newcombe (2011-2015), Derek Smith (2005-09)

The victory also saw Dan Ackehurst follow up his best batting performance last week by securing his best bowling figures of 3 for 23, whilst Lawson Bailey secured his first half century.

There was still time to see both Paul Bright and Pete Harris cling on to their 50th catches for the club.

Congratulations all!

An eventful and highscoring match on the Isle of Wight last Sunday ended in a final over defeat for Pyestock CC, marking their first loss in 7 matches at the glorious and sundrenched Ventnor CC.

Batting first, the tone was set for an all out run-fest as the returning Dan Heath bludgeoned an entertaining unbeaten century, passing 6,000 career runs in the process, whilst club best scores were also recorded for Dan Ackehurst (37) and Ciara Durovi (8). Remarkably there was still time for Jack Bromley to secure the runs he needed to also pass the 6,000 barrier as Pyestock finished on a mammoth 274 for 6 from their 35 overs.

The scorers did not get a chance to rest however as Ventnors overseas star went one better and smashed a century of his own to set his side up for the run chase.

The game ebbed and flowed, until the hosts required just 10 from the final over, and victory was fittingly secured with a thunderous 6 into the pavilion to secure a 4 wicket win with 4 balls to spare.

The defeat ensured one final record was to fall, as this match signalled Pyestocks highest ever undefended score.

Many thanks to Ventnor CC for your hospitality and fabulous match and best of luck for the remainder of the season.

Pyestcock CC were left frustrated this afternoon after travelling to Hartley Wintney CC for an earlier than usual start. Despite a heavy rain shower on the scheduled start time, the covered pitch and outfield appeared to be coping well with the sharp blast of rain and the improving forecast harboured hopes of a decent game. Hopes were boosted with the extended daylight that early July brings meaning several hours were available for play.

Despite all this being seemingly being in our favour, the home side called time on proceedings just before 2pm and we are left watching the sunshine beam down. Never mind.

Next week, Pyestock CC take on Bedhampton Cricket Club in an eagerly awaited encounter.

Huge congratulations to in-form Pyestock stalwart Jon Ford, who scored his 5,000th run while on his way to 47 at Ramsdell CC this week. Jon becomes only the 7th player in the records that the club holds to achieve that feat.

Jon has had a great 2024 so far and is amongst the leaders in the batting averages, and rightfully takes his place amongst the legends of Pyestock CC below

7️⃣0️⃣2️⃣8️⃣ Colin Butler (average 19.85)
6️⃣2️⃣8️⃣6️⃣ Paul Heath (23.63)

Pyestock CC continued there good form with a 102 run victory over Ramsdell CC.

After a slow start an explosive 16 ball half century from Sam Armes set the platform for a high total from their 30 overs with debutanylt Ollie Lewis also contributing a half century.

In reply, Ramsdell struggled to match the required run rate and regular wickets from a rotated bowling line up never allowed the home side a chance to get close to the target required.

Thank you to Ramsdell CC for your hospitality, enjoyable match and best of luck for the remainder of the season.

PYESTOCK CC 242 for 6 (30 overs)
S.Armes 71 (24 balls)
O.Lewis 68* (49)
J.Ford 47 (65)

RAMSDELL CC 140 for 8 (30 overs)
C.Durovi 1 for 4 (3 overs)
D.Ackhurst 1 for 10 (3)
O.Lewis 1 for 15 (3)
