Thanks so much to every single one of you for your relentless support, you’re all amazing 🤩
If I don't have your mobile phone number please can you send to me by email or I am on 07868733065 so that we have good communication and if any issues on the night. We will have a full briefing on the night if you can arrive at 6pm at Hermitage Academy. Matt Mackie, myself and Kevin will be on hand to advise along with the police about where and when you need to be in place!
have a look at your location below and the marshals in your section. Don't worry if you are not familiar with any names as I know every single marshal and will direct on the night. We could not do this without your help so thanks so much for everything in advance.
Hi Vis vests will be given to all marshals so we just need you! If I have missed anyone you know that can marshal, bake, help with the car park, water station…then YES we need them! I will always have people who can't make it, as I understand ‘life happens’ so the more the merrier with extra helpers! If you are not on the list and should be please shout!

Helensburgh Babcock 10k Series 30th May. Please share if you can particularly if you have friends, family or work colleagues in Helensburgh. Thanks Debbie 🏃♂️
Dear Local Resident,
Here at Helensburgh Amateur Athletic Club we are busy getting ready for the Babcock Helensburgh 10K which will be held on Thursday 30th May 2024 starting at 7.30pm. The route passes your house or close to your house and we hope it doesn’t cause you too much inconvenience.
This year, the Council have required us to have a TTRO [Temporary Traffic Regulatory Order] which will mean a series of ‘rolling road closures’ around the course, as the race progresses. Rest assured we will endeavour to minimise the impact on local residents and motorists alike.
The approximate timings of road closures between 7.15pm and 9.00pm will be:
• Start on Cardross Road via Red Gauntlet Road to railway bridge at Old Luss Road 7.15-9.00pm.
• Old Luss Road along East King Street to Grant Street 7.35-8.30pm.
• Lomond Street, via East and West Argyle Street to Woodend Street 7.40-8.20pm.
• Woodend Street to Cumberland Avenue 7.40-8.10pm.
• Cumberland Avenue to West King Street 7.45-8.20pm.
• West King Street to Woodend Street 7.45-8.20pm
* West King Street from Woodend Street to
Colquhoun Street 7.45-8.20pm
* Colquhoun Street from West King Street to West Argyle Street 7.45-8.20pm.
• East King Street to finish 7.20-9.00pm
• Talisman Crescent, Cardross Road to finish at Hermitage Academy 7.25-8.35pm.
Our race forms part of the Babcock 10K Series, formerly the Polaroid 10K series, which is the oldest road running race series in Scotland. As such it has become an important fixture in many Scottish runner’s calendars. It also helps to showcase Helensburgh and hopefully encourages runners from further afield to return and enjoy the town’s amenities.
I hope that we can enjoy your support again this year and would also ask that, if possible, you could avoid parking on the road from around 6pm please. We have a mixed field of runners this year from first timers to experienced athletes, so I hope you are able to enjoy a prime view of the race.
Kind regards,
Debbie Savage

Thanks to so many of you for offering to help at this years fantastic local event on our doorstep! We need more marshals if your free from 6pm to 830pm that would be greatly appreciated!
Calling all RACE MARSHALS! Date for your diary: Thursday 30th May is the Helensburgh 10k 🏃🏻 also if you want to enter Helensburgh 10k, Dumbarton 10k or Shettleston? Fantastic events with a great atmosphere and chip time!
We’ve been extremely fortunate to be able to call upon a fantastic pool of marshals and we’re always on the lookout for more volunteers to help build the team. You don’t need any previous experience so if you’d like to join us then please don’t hesitate to contact me here by giving a thumbs up, message or email me [email protected]
WHO ARE THE MARSHALS?
Typically our marshal teams are made up from all walks of life, both young and old. Runners who want to give something back to the sport, injured runners who need to still feel part of the community, friends and family of competitors who simply love people and want to help!
WHY BE A MARSHAL?
If you have taken part in a race or watched one taking place you would have noticed and appreciated the friendly marshals on race day and the positive impact they made. Then why not be part of this important group of people. We will need people the day before to help set up and we are grateful for your help before or on the night of the 10k for some baking, marshalling or handing out a medal at the finish line. Its great fun and you meet some lovely people and of course the competitors who will always be grateful for your help and support. No event happens without the support of the marshal team. YOU will be the difference to someone’s race experience 🤩
WHAT WILL YOU BE EXPECTED TO DO?
I will try and accommodate marshals so the experience is fun and appropriate so if you want to be with your kids I’ll place you appropriately!
There are a wide range of duties and we make sure that you are well briefed, with detailed information sheets and that you are placed with an experienced member of the team if this is new to you.
Roles include pre-event set up and course marking, finish line duties (giving out medals and prizes), monitoring road crossings, manning water stations, car parking, baggage and looking after the all important tea and cake stall! Each and every job is vital to a safe and successful event.
We always make sure our marshals are looked after and of course there is home made cake! The best bit is a warm and fuzzy feeling that you have helped make something special happen for a lot of people 😊
