Sadly we exit the challenge cup in the first round despite a really strong effort by an injury hit squad.

First half Sleetmoor where probably just about the best team and Lottie Thomas equalising just before the break was the least the ladies deserved.

Second half with no subs to call on we ran out of steam and Stapenhill took advantage with 2 goals to wrap up a 3-1 victory and its the visitors who progress to the 2nd round.

Great opening day result for the ladies as we blew the opposition away with a stunning first half performance. The opening goal scored by Libby Vardy from a perfect cross by Lottie Thomas was a superb team goal started from the edge of our own 18 yard box. Lottie added the 2nd with a lovely dipping swerving shot before Kyla Smith got a goal that she richly deserved. Olivia Allsop added a 4th just before the break for a pretty much perfect 1st 45.

2nd half saw a lot of tired legs with no substitutes to call on but the ladies stuck to the task and added a further 2 goals courtesy of hat trick hero Lottie. A job very well done, 6 goals, 3 points and a clean sheet means we go home very happy.

Our final pre-season game but on this occasion football took a back seat as we paid tribute to U14 Sleetmoor Utd player Noah Toplis who sadly passed away earlier this week.

The game itself was a tough end to end encounter against a strong Duffield team. Sleetmoor did us proud with a massively depleted team, coming from behind to lead 2-1 into the final minute before conceding a late leveller. 2-2 probably a fair reflection on the game, with more minutes under the belts.

The day has ended on a sour note though with our flying winger Chelsea Garner suffering a broken collarbone which will see out for a length of time. Speedy recovery Chelsea 🤞

On Saturday we had our annual trophy presentation, massive thanks to our captain Gracie Pearson for organising and hosting. Its been a season of challenges but the ladies stuck together and in the end where unlucky, missing out on promotion by a single result.

The winners of this seasons special awards are as follows.

Most Improved Player - Olivia Steele

Liv having only just turned 16 before the start of the season has just played her first campaign in adult football and she has excelled. Injuries meant that we had to throw her in at the deep end but it never phased her and shes handled first team football like a seasoned pro.

Managers Player of the year - Chloe-may Smith

Chloe is one of these players that just gets on with it. Never complains, never argues and will give 100% in whatever position she plays. She covers every blade of grass on the field and never stops running. She is an exemplary team player.

Players player of the year - Lottie Thomas

What to say about Lottie? Wow what a season. Top scorer, top of the assist chart and can single handedly win a game in a split second. Players player was voted for by the whole squad and Lottie was a clear and well deserved winner.
